My influences range from Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Pink Floyd to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Radiohead, Jeff Buckley and Soundgarden. I have been influenced by classic Australian artists ranging from INXS, Midnight Oil, The Hoodoo Gurus, Cold Chisel, to contemporary artists such as You am I, Something for Kate, Powderfinger, Ball Park Music, Chet Faker and Birds of Tokyo. I have also been very inspired by pop artists such as U2, REM, Michael Jackson, George Michael, and blues legends such as Eric Clapton, Robert Johnson, Carlos Santana and John Lee Hooker.

|  A WORD ON HISTORY IN THE MAKING |
"As the times intensify, political polarization take the place of meaningful dialogue- it is becoming more and more clear to me that the complex problems of our age demand intersectional politics, compromise, and dialogue that gets beyond pigeon-holing, and name calling that only creates mere division.

I think that it is clear that no party, ideology, or movement has all the answers. Too many politically charged arguments end when the participants plant their heels, and take to hurling absolutes, and slinging mud.

What is needed is to address the tragic consequences of globalization on people and the environment - this cannot be the "free market" because that does not confront the problems, it merely permits them, nor ought a government control everything- states rights, social programs, and free expression must all co-mingle somehow, though still perhaps not at all. 

Much to our peril, there are indeed axioms that refuse to cooperate: I belong to some, and that is the living division. Perhaps our great lesson, as history reveals, that ideas are living things; they possess us, they linger, grow, change, and endure the times even though we are mortal, and temporally bound.

I speak now of war; of ideas. And in this battle, we see the deeper concepts tinkle in the murky depths of our humanity- the drumming grows stronger, our pulses quicken as we witness a cry for blood, for sacrifice, for sweat, and for tears.

As we step closer to the presidential elections here in our (my) country, as the wold is increasingly endangered by militarization, and entropy that will haunt us as the specter nourished on the fragrant, and dangerous notion of limitless expansion- there is emerging from its hidden conclaves, the vanguard, the defenders, and aggressors- summoning minds the world over to fight in this storm. 

Beneath all this turmoil (of which more will develop as a necessary consequence of the primordial struggle) our lives will be touched by the hue of dusk, as a shadow promises a night-marish sleep, just as the sun begins to freeze beneath an ideological winter.

Is this the beginning of a dark-age? If our affairs worsen enough, as they taunt, yes-and then what are we then? Are we individuals defined by our identities, will events of scale swallow us? Is there a middle road in these extreme times? Is there time still yet, to navigate the rough waters, made all the more rough, as this ancient boat we ride in (civilization itself) threatens to capsize, as the waves lick upwards; the depths of self-conflicted hatred, envy, and zealotry hungrily promise a chaotic embrace...

Do not mistake me, this is the crescendo that rages on within the hollow halls, in the plate glass towers, in the poverty of stricken streets- a clamor no amount of screens, and slick ads can suppress.
There is danger friends, and I worry...
That is all."

Hailing from Oxford, England, Self Help are a five-piece who create a sound as blistering as it is off-kilter. The band first came together in 2018 sharing a love for a diverse, experimental approach to making music. Self Help create art strictly on their own terms and, in turn, challenge the listener throughout. Indeed, their unforgettable performances leave a lasting effect on music lovers far and wide, with three frontmen often taking turns to lead the charge. 

Following a short, self-imposed, break from the playing music, Self Help returned in 2022 with their uncompromising sound enveloping their peers into a sonic-euphoric, semi-doomscape or, as the band have coined, vroomscape! This led to a number of festival appearances and airplay on BBC 6 Music as well as support slots with the likes of Squid, Goat Girl, The Murder Capital and Animal House. 

Hot on the heels of their latest single ‘Enrage Engage’, Oxford five-piece Self Help return with the raucous I Want You All To Myself. The band continue to showcase the diversity of their expansive sound from track to track, illustrating why the likes of BBC 6 Music, The Vinyl District, Fortitude Magazine and many more have supported their music.

The upcoming album is packed full of post-punk energy and is a result of Self Help’s ironic displeasure at seeing the modern world in the state that it’s currently in.
