Following the release of his ‘Sacred’ EP on All Centre last month, DJ Pitch provides a mix of influences to give us a glimpse into his next record which is due out at the end of year via TT. Based in London, DJ Pitch is very much community driven. Whether that’s through being a promoter or A&Ring for the labels he co-runs, TT and All Centre. Community is at the centre of everything he does. Last year he released his brilliant debut album ‘It's Not What You Said It's Because You Spoke’ on TT - the ‘Scared’ EP is his first release since then.

Smooth Brain Sunday 11 (Nov 2023)

This mix pushes my practice further than I believe I've ever gone before, folding rock, ambient, spoken word, and percussion into a post-western story of planetary exploration.

Lately, I've caught myself digging deeper into my past as a percussionist and writer. I played drumline (tenors) from 2009-2013, built instruments and wrote songs in a DIY/Stomp-inspired band called Groove (2013-2017), and trained across marimba, steel pan, vibraphone, and timpani. I also wrote a series of seven science fiction books in high school fueled primarily by Avatar the Last Airbender and queer escapism. The series was called Matter, and allowed me to craft worlds, personalities, heartbreak, and outlining (without me really realizing it) the belief that, collectively, the people we put ourselves in relation to help us build the world we want to live in.

Because of this, this set starts with a 1991 rendition on "The Songlines" from the Robert Hohner Perc. Ensemble—from a gift my percussion teacher gave me around 2010 or so. From there, all tracks come from the 21st century (there is good to be found here!), including two new pieces from myself that score an upcoming film I'm making titled Prednisone. The goal is to launch you from land to sky to space, see some planets, find some havens, heal wounds, purge toxins, and return home.

Smooth Brain Sunday 12 wsg Endash (Dec 2023)

January is the start of a new year: a reset, fresh chapter, closing the door on what no longer serves you. A chance to set a timed measure of your goals and set routines to live the best version of yourself. 

This mix depicts the spectrum of feelings and internal conflict over the course of the year that still lingers in your body. Unexpected love, joy, and wonder will come your way. So will disorder, pain, and death. It is not easy to cope with changes - you will sometimes resort back to old ways. Find the balance of accepting this while letting go to be who you want to be. Most importantly, give yourself flowers while you can still smell them!
