Clarisa Kimskii has been involved in Electronic Music for for over two decades in her native Washington DC, New York and Berlin. She got her first pair of turntables in 1997 and starting organizing events and playing House, Breaks and Techno records shortly afterwards. 
She tried to walk away from music in 02 to pursue another dream of acting which took her to NYC. As she was about to leave for Seoul for  
a life changing opportunity her heart screamed this isn’t it. Alas! It was techno. 
In 2008 she started DJ’jng again.
  Shortly afterwards she started  tinkering  with music production and started releasing music in 2013 through her imprint L.A.G. At first with then production Partner Cory James as Point Break. Then later on she went on to release music on Mary Yuzovskaya’s Monday Off, Jamaica Suk’s Gradient, Sophia Saze’s Dusk & Haze , Rush Plus’s Metro Xpress, famed ambient label  Mysteries Of The Deep and Laura BCR’s On Board Music. 
As a DJ her sound fluctuates through the various sub genres of techno depending on the time and the space. This has had her play at such venues and events such as Tresor , Pornceptual, About Blank, Ohm, The Bunker , Output, Bossa Nova Civic Club, Sequence, Chalet, Trade (Miami), The Knockdown Center, Flash DC, Honcho Campout and many others throughout the years.

Since it came out in March this year, a magnificent 'Sun Chapter One' LP by Ben Kaczor has been on heavy rotation in our HQ and our Delayed Weekend Getaways. 
The multi-talented Swiss artist doesn't look to slow down with exciting original material and several remix works that are already in the pipeline. It sounds like KCZ/CZT co-founder have found his niche in a carefully constructed micro house with synth pads exhaling in long, overlapping layers and quirky percussions.
We couldn't be more thrilled to feature Kaczor's mix in our 'Delayed with...' series. This off-kilter journey has all ingredients for late nights in hazy dark basements. The mix is a well-balanced minimal, deep trip with subtle melodies, lush pads, and intricate grooves.

Smooth Brain Sunday 11 (Nov 2023)

This mix pushes my practice further than I believe I've ever gone before, folding rock, ambient, spoken word, and percussion into a post-western story of planetary exploration.

Lately, I've caught myself digging deeper into my past as a percussionist and writer. I played drumline (tenors) from 2009-2013, built instruments and wrote songs in a DIY/Stomp-inspired band called Groove (2013-2017), and trained across marimba, steel pan, vibraphone, and timpani. I also wrote a series of seven science fiction books in high school fueled primarily by Avatar the Last Airbender and queer escapism. The series was called Matter, and allowed me to craft worlds, personalities, heartbreak, and outlining (without me really realizing it) the belief that, collectively, the people we put ourselves in relation to help us build the world we want to live in.

Because of this, this set starts with a 1991 rendition on "The Songlines" from the Robert Hohner Perc. Ensemble—from a gift my percussion teacher gave me around 2010 or so. From there, all tracks come from the 21st century (there is good to be found here!), including two new pieces from myself that score an upcoming film I'm making titled Prednisone. The goal is to launch you from land to sky to space, see some planets, find some havens, heal wounds, purge toxins, and return home.

January is the start of a new year: a reset, fresh chapter, closing the door on what no longer serves you. A chance to set a timed measure of your goals and set routines to live the best version of yourself. 

This mix depicts the spectrum of feelings and internal conflict over the course of the year that still lingers in your body. Unexpected love, joy, and wonder will come your way. So will disorder, pain, and death. It is not easy to cope with changes - you will sometimes resort back to old ways. Find the balance of accepting this while letting go to be who you want to be. Most importantly, give yourself flowers while you can still smell them!

Smooth Brain Sunday 14 (Feb 2024) - Luv Mix

Our landmark 700th episode in partnership with Detroit’s Blueprint presents the first in a new three-part series exploring the untold history of Detroit techno from the perspective of the women who built it.

The history of Detroit techno is often recounted in waves. First there was the Belleville Three—Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May—closely followed by a second cohort of artists who further developed the sound in the '90s. Names like Carl Craig, Octave One, Robert Hood, Jeff Mills and Mike Banks are among those that have been codified in the official annals of techno history.

But there's another, lesser known story that is seldom told about the women who grew the scene right alongside them. Equally esteemed artists like DJ Minx (the founder of Women On Wax Recordings), K-Hand, DJ Cent, Stacey Hotwaxx Hale and more ran labels, collectives and DJ nights that aren't bestowed with the same credit as those from their male counterparts, and have consequently been lost in the chronicles of time. For the 700th episode of the RA Exchange, we counter correct this gender inequity with the first episode of a three-part series hosted and produced by the all-female Detroit collective and party series Blueprint. 

Alanna Greenlee, Janisa Nelson and Crystal Mioner embark on interviews that illuminate an alternative history of Detroit techno that unfurled alongside these better-documented techno waves, tracing the birth of a woman-led community that put mutual support at its heart and fought to earn respect from their male peers and the scene at large. EX.700 Detroit's Blueprint: Episode 1

Shubostar's RA Podcast begins and ends with video game music. (The beginning kind of sounds like Mary Poppins, actually.) Lots of DJs and producers play or make music that emulates the nostalgic sounds of old-school gaming, but the South Korean artist goes direct to the source. Before falling in love with dance music, she went to an animation-focused high school and learned how to make video games—so it's basically in her musical DNA. And while her DJing isn't as out-there as you might expect from that description, '90s and '00s Japanese video game (and anime) soundtracks offer a good idea of what her playing sounds like: lush, synthetic and a little naive, full of wonder and positive vibes.

With releases on labels like Permanent Vacation, Internasjonal and her own uju Records, Shubostar is also a student of cosmic space disco, inspired by artists like Daniele Baldelli, Lindstrøm and Prins Thomas. Lately she's been rubbing elbows with Âme and Dixon. She picks tracks from across eras and genres on her RA Podcast, with cuts from Yellow Magic Orchestra, Baldelli and Kraftwerk alongside selections from DJ City and Private Agenda. It's a mix full of mood shits, dazzling keyboard runs and, of course, melodies that seem to reach out towards the heavens—or outer space.

Central American born Silent Servant has performed worldwide in clubs from LA, Berlin to Osaka. A chance meeting with Karl O'Conner in 1999 would establish a friendship that would open the door to the Sandwell District label in 2006. Silent Servant's sound is a reinterpretation of early '80s post-punk electronics, paired with the deep, metallic sounds of Basic Channel and Downwards.

The Essential Mix is a weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 currently broadcast between 0:00 - 2:00 AM UK time on Saturday morning. Originally broadcast on 30 October 1993, the Essential Mix features contemporary DJs and music producers of electronic dance music. The show has been presented since its inception by Pete Tong and features an uninterrupted two-hour mix from a different artist each week, overlaid with occasional continuity announcements delivered by Tong. With a broadcast run in excess of 25 years, the Essential Mix is one of the longest-running programmes in the current BBC Radio 1 schedule, and is one of very few Radio 1 shows which is not broadcast live.
