- Mein bisheriger Weg war ein ziemliches Up and Down! Von Ablehnung bis hin zu 1000%igem Support war alles mit dabei. Das ist natürlich nicht immer easy peasy.. Heute darf ich mich ziemlich glücklich darüber schätzen, wie sich mein bisheriger Weg entwickelt hat und blicke voller Vorfreude auf alles, was das Universum in Zukunft für mich bereithält!

Was ist dir an einem Safer Space wichtig?
- Vertrauen, ein respektvoller Umgang mit-, füreinander und Awareness in brenzlichen Situationen!

▌I What’s your history with music in general and DJ-ing especially?
I have been growing up in Italy with spaghetti and disco music. My parents were obsessed with Italo disco and they influenced me very much since I was a kid. I have been in the clubbing scene since a very young age, working as DJ host in central Italy, always in the background, always admiring with eyes (and ears) wide open the DJs and hoping one day I could be one of them. We did not have many female DJs back then and it was really hard to be taken seriously. This made me feel very insecure and hesitant, so despite being very passionate about music and djing I have only played for myself or for small group of friends and for long time I have never dared to play for a bigger public . In 2015 I moved to Berlin and after a few years focused on building confidence, improving my knowledge and skills I have finally decided to put myself out there, creating my own music style fully shaped on my taste and personality and start playing, with a clear vision of making disco, in all its different declinations, inclusive and exciting again, bringing the dancers on a fresh, energetic, fun and always a “little bit italian” journey.


▌II Did you have a mentor?
My mentor and role model has always been Claudio Coccoluto. 
He was a good friend of mine too and I have been inspired by him very much especially on a personal level. Unfortunately he passed away before he could see me playing but I like thinking that he helped me bringing all my confidence out and believing that with passion, focus, hunger and hard work we can overcome our fears and make our dreams come true.

▌III How did you prepare this mix and what was your main inspiration?
I prepared this mix selecting tracks from my favorite Italian producers, thinking about taking you on a trip around Italy. Beautiful and joyful, sometimes rough and loud, is the country of contradictions, where everything non-sense will somehow make sense eventually, where your brain gets totally confused and lost but certainly your heart will be always warmed up and you will never feel alone.

@kataya_official s a DJ living in Berlin. At the age of six, Kataya discovered her passion for music, she started to learn different instruments and play autodidactic. Due to her great talent, she then attended a music school and played in a classical orchestra. This had a great influence on her view of music as a very social art, including the role of producer and consumer at the same time. In the late 90s, her brother introduced her to Berlin genres such as techno, urban music and more. Inspired by rhythm and the soul of the matter, she developed new ideas and deep understanding of the subject.
2017 she had her first gig at one of the Berlin’s biggest music events, the Carnival of Cultures. Since the spark was ignited, she and her music have been a self-starter. Her social thinking, mixed with her sensitive sense for certain vibrations, manages to connect with the soul of the dance floor like a dream catcher. From deep baselines and wonderful melodies to epic vocals, groovy sub-bases and dirty tunes, she always knows what's hot.
