DJ Hockey approaches techno by intermingling layers of contrasting elements. Defining characteristics for his selections are thick, encompassing atmospheres and moods on the introspective side. These sounds are often paired with nods to the Midwest wrapped in a single session, crafting a journey through spacious and full beats. A consistent overarching theme of DJ Hockey’s style in selecting and producing is having a driving pace and heavy hit of psychedelia. 

When asked about this mix, "The mix I have prepared for Research and Development explored a familiar but expanded avenue of my typical sound. It journeys through a less driving pace of off-kilter house/techno-house territory and drifts into spacey, yet bounce-y techno all with a Midwestern flare."

DJ Hockey is launching PPRZ records with Adam 2 with the intention to showcase techno from the PNW and beyond and are launching their 23 track their charity VA compilation available April 01 at

This month we are delighted to welcome Plena Sound onto the State of Play. Currently training in sound therapy, Plena believes that music has the power to create space for transcendental moments both on and off of the dancefloor.
Plena has created an eclectic electro mix that begins with a few of her personal treasures, moving into some higher energy sounds helping to blow away the January cobwebs.
The mix combines some of her longstanding favourites and newer finds that offer up her signature style of broken beats and acid basslines - with a bit of a twist!

Wouldn't be right as we approach the 30 mark to not have a bit of braindance from our 2nd birthday party with the mighty Rephlex Records and who better for that to be than the ever prolific Aleksi Perälä. I had the pleasure of getting blind drunk on Koskenkorva with Aleksi the night before in my flat in Hackney where he was staying, the guy is such a funny and quality dude but the hangover was savage ngl.

Despite the 'will he, won't he?' online speculation of whether afx was playing or not (the line-up remained secret until the day) this was another wicked party with 7 live sets in the main room along with a DJ Rephlex Records DJ set. A logistical nightmare to execute but well worth it! Hopefully more of these sets will appear in the future within this archive.
