Carrageenan, a solo electronic project by Brussels based producer and Cold Moss label head Matthieu Levet (also active in Crash Toto, Pizza Noise Mafia, Carcass Identity).
Started as a noise project, Carrageenan's music has been enriched over the years with a rough groove and sounds borrowed from techno music, illbient , dub and industrial. After 'Let's Go There' his first LP on Cold Moss, then 'Invisible Design' on Czaszka Records, his last album 'Distorted Reality' was just released on Brooklyn based Jollies Records label.

The second installment in a new quarterly series dedicated to field recording and inspired by our love of tape culture. This time it's winter, and Gio's live mix was produced from a house up in the Apennine Mountains.

Giovanni Lami has made a name for himself through rigorous artistic exploration of the material and conceptual properties of magnetic tape. Here he presents selections from 15 (more) artists whose practice is oriented around the use of tape as an instrument, while also integrating live field recordings, both from the sounds produced from his manipulation of the tape players, and also from the sounds outside of the cabin in the mountains, including a wood-burning stove.

Inverted Microphones: Giovanni Lami's Tapeocracy #2

I first featured qualchan.'s work in Bandcloud some three years ago, a single track he shared on SoundCloud. He later featured with a tape released on the always interesting czaszka (rec.) label. He reached out about doing a mix some time late last year and it popped into my inbox this week. The weather in Dublin has been eerie, the sun high over strangely misty skies. This mix is perfect for that, a hazy mix of sounds that are ambient and languid, digital attempts at dusty hip-hop, searing modular themes, Vangelis sounds over chopped beats and so forth. It's entitled a mix of remembrance but really it's more of a mixtape. I hope you like it.

Új Bála, AKA Gábor Kovács AKA Kid Champagne – you may recall his punk-anarchist aesthetic casting psychedelia and rhythmic noise passages into a metal-quicksilver monolith. Új Bála is fond of extreme dance music, warped synths and an all-out fervid energy dosed uncompromisingly to the hypnotised crowd.
