Qdup is flying high into 2019 after continuing his string of original singles on Washington, DC’s Fort Knox Recordings. He also found himself engineering and producing a Vocal Sample Pack along with conscious party MC EVeryman that was released earlier in 2019 with Canada’s Black Octopus Sound. His DJ touring kept him busy last year including DJ sets at Shamhala Music Festival & Bass Coast (Four Deck Set with Fort Knox Five), Motion Notion and Joshua Tree Music Festival (DJ Performance with EVeryman). 2019 looks to be a good year as Qdup has been hard at work cooking up new beats to bring to you. 

First up for Party Platters Vol. 1, “Love Rap Thang” is a strong Disco Break that is like a 70’s Soul Train Line and a classic Hip Hop MC got together and made a love child. Qdup’s beats and bass marry the classic party rap vibe with new school production prowess that really hits a sound system right. This will get the party moving! As the name suggests, “Funk Over Here” has all the funk in the trunk to make the bass bins bump. It’s infectious bass line and call and response vocal chants will have the dance floor saying “Hell Yeah”. Pure vibes! It’s time to take it back… Take it back and switch it up. This is no easy task. In the words of Big Daddy Kane ‘Aint No Half Steppin’. Fitting as Haynesy takes on the smooth operator’s VOX in this EP. He’s plucked some of the most influential artists of our culture and reworked their vessels to bring a classic sound while maintaining a current vibe. All this is seasoned by the South Coast turntablist DJ Jabbathakut. Layering his signature slices of funk via his Shure carts on this dope EP.

Big Mouth – First Haynesy takes on Whodini. Transforming the track to a tapestry of horns and guitar licks, he breathes fresh air into this classic. Patching it up for 2020 dance floors (Should they ever be occupied) while Jabba’s skills are ever-present gluing this banger together with precise cuts and scratches.

Let The Rhythm Hit ‘Em – If you’re going to remix the R you need to be to have beats. Luckily for Haynsey, he has an abundance and they’re all high grade. Somehow managing to keep that boom bap, while paying homage to the tempo and style you’d expect the G.O.D to rhyme on. Haynsey nails this remix while Jabz keeps his consistency on the cuts. This rework is bonkers!

Root Down – This couldn’t be reworked at a better time. Following the current nostalgia and media hype behind the Beastie Boys story, Haynesy steps in and switches the original with some serious funk for the boys to lay on. Consider a timeless classics pillow fluffed to the max!

Set It Off – An acapella that’s so dope it’s been present in many a scratch and hook over the years. However, you haven’t heard it flipped like this. A neck-snapping bass line is present throughout, complemented by a picked electric guitar while Jabz keeps the tempo by shredding a medley of Kane VOX.

I’ll House You – Never being a fan of this direction for the JB’s I welcomed a remix from someone like Haynesy. Not disappointing he replaces that old school House vibe with the funk he flicks seamlessly from his crates. Keeping the tempo true to the original, it’s replaced with a new take that’s been tried and tested on many a dance floors that will elevate your set to the next level.

This one has real international flavour to it with the four collaborators hailing from Ibiza, Australia, New Zealand and the UK. When not touring the globe as resident for huge events such as Glitterbox, Space and Pacha, Mr. Doris can be found on the beautiful white Isle of Ibiza, where his fusion sound of funk, soul, hip hop and house has seen him produce with legends such as Nightmares on Wax and Groove Armada. D-Funk resides in Sydney where he has a long established a global reputation as a legendary purveyor of all things beats, breaks and funk over multiple tours and 100 plus releases. That pedigree is definitely on show with this release. First up, the original mix of 'All Down' fuses broken beats with deep bass dives, organ riffs and funk guitar licks which is all brought together by the outstanding vocals of N'fa Jones and Cantaloop. 'On the flip', @aldo-vanucci, most notable as Plymouth's 14th best DJ, does what he does best and funks out the groove with infectious horn hooks and delivers a head nodding master of a remix. Once again showing why he counts the likes of Fatboy Slim amongst his biggest fans. Based on this debut, the combination of Mr. Doris & D-funk with Bombstrikes sounds like it could be a perfect match!

Mr Doris & D-Funk feat Nfa Jones & Cantaloop - 'All Down' (Aldo Vanucci Mix) [Bombstrikes]

Sydney-based, British born DJ, D-Funk has amassed a fair few achievements in his 25-years on the decks. Making his club debut at The Depot in Bristol in 1995, he’s gone on to DJ all over the world, playing notable sets at Space Ibiza and Ministry Of Sound and released on labels including Sunday Best and Bombstrikes. 

Getting his first set of decks at 14, Doug initially fell for the sounds of jungle and techno before a night dancing to house icon Tony De Vit in 1997 turned him towards the slinkier sounds of house music. 

His DJ career began to take off during his time at university in Wolverhampton where he started to pick up gigs at the Canal Club and Mezzanine, playing alongside DJs including Joey Negro, Mr Fingers, Scott Bond and Lisa Lashes, before a move to the South-Coast town of Bournemouth led him to eventually start his own night ‘Break Da House’ in 2004. 

The night took off, attracting big names including The Stanton Warriors and Plump DJs and eventually led to D-Funk’s first release, the ‘Electrotek’ EP after Dub Pistols headlined one night and Barry Ashworth from the band decided to release Doug’s music on his Westway label. The track found its way onto a TV ad in Portugal, as well as becoming a mainstay on Kiss FM’s breakbeat chart and gave Doug the confidence to pursue a career as a producer as well as a DJ, eventually leading to releases on Adapted Records and Ghetto Funk among countless other labels over the next 15 years. 

Moving to Sydney Australia in 2009, Doug started his label Upstart Music, releasing his own productions alongside tracks from the likes of Crackerz & Jam, Niko & Lyall and Rogue Robot and later started the funk label Grits N Gravy alongside friend and funk producer Philly Blunt, with the label winning the ‘Best Label’ award at Perth Dance Music Awards in 2010. 

Since living in Sydney, Doug has held down residencies at The World Bar and The Standard/Middlebar for the best part of a decade, as well as regular slots at Sash, Ivy, Goros, Hugos and many others. He’s played events for high profile companies such as Blackberry, Telstra, Jagermeister,  Sydney Cricket Ground & Saatchi & Saatchi. But there was still demand for him back on the side of the world and he regularly returned to Europe to play at Space Ibiza (including a set at the penultimate night of Carl Cox’s Revolution party) as well as touring in the UK, Europe, Asia and Canada. 

Now 25 years into his career, Doug is about to mark the 10th anniversary of his label Grits ‘N’ Gravy, with a compilation due this year mixed by himself and Philly Blunt, and has been busy producing house, hip hop and nu-disco with his current production partner Mr Doris.
