Making their debut on Anjunadeep with their first ever release are Cubicolor - an emerging act from the Netherlands with an exciting flair for melody, and an impressive command of deep house grooves.

Title track "Next Planet" was an instant favourite with the label A&R team, skilfully building a slow-burning epic from a simple, repetitive riff, accompanied by brooding melodic flourishes and stirring climactic pads.

"Soul Chords" showcases a more laid-back side to Cubicolor's sound, incorporating jazz and funk influences as chugging grooves and a wandering bassline are paired up with dreamy atmospherics. Perfect poolside material.

Again highlighting their deft touch, "New Roads" grows from subtle beginnings into a deep sun-kissed gem, guided by rolling low-end and infectious piano stabs.

In the summer of 2010 Mercury Music Prize winners (and Everything But The Girl fans) The xx asked Tracey Thorn and her long-time partner in EBTG Ben Watt (also Strange Feeling label boss) to record a track from the The xx’s debut album for a special compilation the band were commissioning of covers of the album's songs by their favourite artists. Unfortunately the project fell apart a few months later for numerous logistical reasons (not least the second wind breathed into the original album by the Mercury Prize victory) but not before Tracey had sung a new version of one the album most beautiful tracks, 'Night Time'. 

The track gathered dust for a few months but it is rightfully seeing the light of day on a new EP from Tracey Thorn called the 'Night Time EP', released on Strange Feeling on October 31, much to the delight of all concerned. 'Night Time' was handpicked by Tracey and features Ben guesting on guitars and backing vocals (it is the first time the two have played together on a recording for over ten years) with the drums, programming and mix coming courtesy of Tracey's current production collaborator Ewan Pearson (producer of both Tracey's recent acclaimed album 'Love And Its Opposite' and 2007's 'Out Of The Woods'). As Tracey re-articulates Romy's lyrics, Ben fluidly arpeggiates the original interwoven guitar lines into one seamless pass, while Ewan adds crisp fresh half-tempo drums, atmospheric misty synths and booming bass. 

On the flip side, one of 'Love And Its Opposite''s most popular tracks 'Swimming' is revisited. Ewan buffs up and re-edits last year's remix by (then emerging and now) current dance producers-du-jour, Visionquest (Detroit's Seth Troxler, Ryan Crosson, Lee Curtiss) into a new version, with judicious new drum parts and a sparkling widescreen mix-down. Expect serious late summer club action. Meanwhile, UK underground house legend Charles Webster adds his magic totoo, with a beautifully percussive main mix and a rainy, autumnal dub.

‘Shapes On Shapes’ is the much anticipated debut album from LA based duo Wild & Free. Released this November on Portugal’s Discotexas, ‘Shapes On Shapes’ sees Drew Kramer and George Cochrane deliver on the promise of their early releases with 11 tracks of languorous poolside disco, tropical pop and Balearic house.
 
Both multi-instrumentalists, singers and producers in their own right, the pair came together in 2015 and have spent the past 2 years crafting a series of acclaimed EPs and remixes (for the likes of Panama, Gigamesh, Joe Goddard and Ben Browning of Cut/Copy) that saw them tipped by the likes of Spin, XLR8R, Indie Shuffle and many more and take their live show on the road playing alongside the likes of Brooklyn’s Body Language.

From the album’s opener, and title track, an intoxicating haze of ambient synths, dreamlike vocal samples and reverb drenched guitar licks, its clear Drew and George have stretched themselves to fully embrace the possibilities of the album format. It's also obvious that the band have named themselves well, as throughout the record there’s a looseness and sense of spontaneity that few studio based acts can pull off. 

Whether it’s the sun kissed pop of ‘River of Nilé’ and ‘Moment’, the exotic heady disco of ‘Tropique’ and ‘Ferns and Stuff’ or the dub inflected ‘Hiding Behind the Sun’, ‘Shapes On Shapes’ is one of the most joyous, life affirming albums you’ll hear this year.

Influenced by the social and political climate of the modern world, the 11-track LP is inspired by the artist’s acute awareness of society’s dependence on technology, critiquing the social media bubble responsible for the civic polarisation seen globally. Taking the listener on an immersive, emotional journey, Perspectives is filled with dark yet hopeful compositions, each representing their own personal story. The album title refers to a problem we all face: having differing perspectives on the same situation, which in turn leads to conflict.

Encouraging listeners to spend less time behind computer screens and more time outside in nature, many of the album’s samples were recorded from MOTSA’s own environment. “Differing perspectives on issues is something we are regularly confronted with in our lives - the fact that this often then leads to conflict is something I have felt closely in my own life. I feel it is a problem that is growing in an ever more egocentric world” MOTSA explains “Maybe if we can develop more empathy as a species we can grow and reverse this trend. The album is a collection of little stories and reflections of how I perceive our world and the problems we face."

Everything from the sounds of children playing in the sands of a Balearic beach to crickets in the grass and bells recorded from his father’s apartment in Moscow are utilised, with the producer also recording and sampling his own voice to create distant, choir-like melodies.

The record marks MOTSA’s fourth release since 2016’s Petricolour - named after the label he set up to release it. The EP’s lead track ‘Colours’ has amassed over 4 million Spotify streams to date, while his following single “Falling” received support from Lauren Laverne on BBC Radio 6. In the three years since, the artist has embarked on a world tour, playing shows in South Africa, Mexico, Portugal, Poland and his native Austria as his stock continued to rise.

MOTSA’s signature sound – a soulful yet driven harmonic blend – is present throughout Perspectives, continuing to propel the multi-talented artist to the highest acclaim into 2019 and beyond.
