5enses is a cassette mix series centred around evoking the 5 senses curated by 404 Eros. For this chapter each DJ has been asked to embody the energy of Notting Hill Carnival. Each cassette tells their own unique narrative sonically and through the items accompanied for each 5ense.

For the 4th tape of our Carnival series, we invite Blazer Sound System, Colorado-born, NYC-based duo Zebrablood and Rainstick. The duo have become known for their epic reggae parties in apartments, abandoned restaurants, and just any corner of Brooklyn they can squeeze their custom sound system into.

A few words from Rainstick who took the reins on this mix....

Always dreamed of going to Notting Hill, but j'ouvert and carnival in Brooklyn has been a massive part of my adult life.  The biggest parade in the US, though increasingly militarized by the NYPD, is truly a mad ting.  Music from every corner for miles, pirates going 24/7, jerk grills smoking out Nostrand, frankincense pouring from the steel pan and jab jab HQs in deep Flatbush. Grabbing a fresh pine and ginger around the corner from 1234 Utica, police helicopters lighting the Rara krew like a movie, a life-saving cup of corn soup and dumplings at sunrise (then back to the Barbancourt).  Jumping the fence, chasing down the Hot 97 truck as the sun sets.  In special tribute to BK ragga hip hop bootleg culture, NYC party mix dj style, and with Love and Respect to Grenfell and beyond. As with the other tapes, all profits will go to Grenfell Foundation, the purpose of the foundation is to provide independent support to the former residents of Grenfell Tower, their families, dependents, and the local community.

For the third instalment of the chapter we are very blessed to welcome the prolific producer, artist & way way more than that, Dennis Bovell. For those not familiar with Bovell, we're sure you know his music.

Initially forming Matumbi where he found relative fame & became the backing band for many touring Jamaican reggae stars when they played in England, including I-Roy, Ken Boothe and Johnny Clarke. He was instrumental in forming the sound of lovers rock in the early 80's writing hits such as Janet Kay's "silly games". Dennis produced some of the  80s finest dub, disco and post-punk gems – both as a solo artist and as a producer for Linton Kwesi Johnson, I Roy, Steel Pulse, The Slits & even mixing for Fela. On the post punk side, think Maximum Joy, Thompson Twins, The Pop Group, The Slits, Orange Juice & more recently Golden teacher.

To say we're gassed is an understatement - This mix represents the Carnival sounds for Dennis & we're very excited for you to hear it.
