African Wildlife - sound effects library

African Wildlife is an utterly unique collection of pristine wildlife and nature sounds, recorded in the wilderness of Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia over a period of 4 months, 2015. It comes in four categories, featuring Mammals, Birds, Ambience and Insects recordings.

The diversity of African wildlife sounds is widely reflected in this sound effects library, with the material including but not limited to screaming, barking, growling, roaring, breathing, grunting, feeding, hooting, warbling, screeching, farting, guffawing, whooping, gurgling, rutting, yapping, snorting, tweeting, trumpeting, chattering and squeaking.

Extensive metadata including detailed information on location, species, habitat, behaviour and usage is included, formatted for Soundminer. An .xls metadata sheet is also provided.

Deep in the night, at the banks of the black river

This recording was captured right in front of my tent at a little after 5am on the side of the Chattooga River. The section I was camping near was very calm and saw many people fishing and tubing on the river each day. Luckily traffic was minimal this morning and I was able to record some pristine nature sounds!

Recorded with a Sony D100 on a tripod, sensitivity 10.

This gentle insect chorus was recorded late at night on the Le Muracciole Farm on the outskirts of Canino in the Lazio region of Italy. The mics were placed close to a trickling stream resulting in a calm natural soundscape.

for this junto challenge "Record a piece of music that moves back and forth between two inhospitable zones before finding one, à la Goldilocks and the Three Bears, that is just right."


I made a parallel accompaniment for a discarded quena (south-american indian flute) performed years ago by my friend the great Luis Rigou.
Completely removed the old acoustic  tracks/accompaniment and made a "comfort" one ( a tame groove of pizz strings samples and upright bass C minor pentatonic) and an uncomfortably one (C diminished performed on dystopian orchestral samples and a different flute performed on a different key)

The final mix goes back and forth from the comfort and the disturbing track.
