"Dood" is inherently dirtybird and the one you've been waiting for if you were expecting something nasty from ‘Urban Animal’.  The heart-squeezing booty-bass-line smacks instantly, while the rumbling drawl of the stoned vocal perfectly encapsulates VonStroke’s witty spirit. 

"Dood" is idiosyncratic, eccentric, unpredictable and imaginative, it’s a seriously fun trip aimed squarely at the heart of the dancefloor, and this track has been a peak time hit for VonStroke and the entire dirtybird crew this summer. 

"Urban Animal’ embodies the singular sound that Claude VonStroke and his dirtybird crew have perfected over the last nine years. Touching on all spectrums of house, moving from booty bass to d’n’b, ‘Urban Animal’ is rich and diverse, stoic and playful, tough and tender. Quadrant and Iris aka Leigh and Karen Caplan are drum and bass producers based in Seattle. They have had releases on Metalheadz, Hospital, Avantgarde, Fokuz and Cliché Music. Releases on Dispatch (and Dispatch LTD), Commercial Suicide and Intrigue Music are on the way!
 
Leigh has been writing quality drum and bass for nearly a decade. From his humble origins as a hungry young producer in a Philadelphia basement, to his current status as a respected artist on the worldwide scene, the goal has always been the same: make music that he is proud to call his own. 

Quadrant was originally a four-person collective, having gained modest notoriety for their bootleg of Faithless' 'Crazy English Summer'. Their debut release, 'Arachnid' came in 2005 on the legendary UK label Renegade Hardware. During the next year, they released three more tunes on Hardware, most notably 'Manipulated Living' on the Carpe Diem LP, a track that hasn't left many DJs' crates since. Following these initial successes was a highly respected slew of appearances on Triple Vision’s labels Citrus and Fokuz including the incredible Dermaphoria EP, showcasing dancefloor impact and melodic beauty– a rare combination in a genre that so often seems to favour one at the expense of the other.

Quadrant's transformation into a solo project has only served to increase the volume, quality, and focus of the music. It has also allowed for a wider variety of collaborations with artists from around the world; a co-production with like-minded producers Allied on Trust in Music, a killer remix swap with Italy's venerable Dabs on Citrus, and several works with fellow Seattle producers such as Homemade Weapons, Kid Hops and of course Iris. 

Iris found electronic music at 13, when she first heard 'Insomnia' by Faithless on Seattle’s C89.5. Since then, her love affair with the music has only intensified as she has honed a diverse set of tastes and an equally exacting repertoire of skills behind the decks. Her journey has taken her from UK hard house, into the sounds of trance and progressive, finally culminating in her current focus of deep drum and bass. 

Quadrant and Iris have been absolutely prolific with their collaborations. Their first tune, 'Anthropocene', was spotted immediately by Goldie and snapped up for the Metalheadz Genesis EP volume 4. Other collaborations with Kid Hops have been released on Hospital Recordings, Avantgarde, Fokuz and Cliché Music. Works for Dispatch, Intrigue, C.I.A and Commercial Suicide are also set for release, keep an eye on Quadrant and Iris' pages for more info (links below). With worldwide DJ support from the likes of Goldie, Nymfo, Ant TC1, Total Science, Klute, Dabs, Silent Witness, Survival, Ulterior Motive and State of Mind, this is a very exciting (and hectic!) time for Quadrant and Iris!

This summer I had a host of high profile UK & European Festivals and spent 3-4 weeks of solid studio time beforehand, tweaking and enhancing each & every track I played for maximum muscle. I re-edited and Revamped a total of 160 tracks during the process.

And then I went out and SMASHED it :)

Hope you enjoy this recording of my headline set from the wonderful Wickerman Festival in Scotland on a weekend where I also played Kendal Calling and Secret Garden Party before collapsing in a heap on Monday morning at 3am.

One of the UK’s freshest new drum & bass talents drops his debut solo single on Critical, this one is simple mammoth! Emperor has been making waves over the past couple of years moonlighting with various camps but it was the keen ear of label boss Kasra that cottoned on early drawing him deep into the Critical ranks. If this new single is anything to go by, one of the best decisions Critical could have made.
The cinematic intro of ‘Begin’ is beautiful blend of strings, reversed fx and the sultry vocals of Georgia Yates who featured on the Enei album last year. All build to a haunting dropout before the next stage, an absolute nasty tech-stepping future roll-out that’s been getting Fabric in sweat these last few months. Twisted, uplifting and wonderfully emotive, this is another slice of Critical magic.
Next up and we’re treated to the vintage double-bass grooves of ‘She Said’. Another huge epic intro featuring a soaring vocal drifting over ethereal pads features here as hi-end percussion leads into the fattest bassline for a properly funked up dance floor workout. Think Roni Size ‘Brown Paper Bag’ or Peshay’s ‘Miles From Home’ for 2013...bad to the bone!

Just as summer finally dawns, Survival steps in with those perfect Dub vibes to compliment the glorious rays of sunshine and at the same time issues an absolute blinder of an E.P.

As the title suggests the “Dub Soldier E.P” takes everything back to those all-important, essential elements of killer drums combined with plenty of low-end frequency, and with no added unnecessary clutter Survival’s technical prowess is allowed to shine through across an all round more stripped back 5 track outing on this EP. All crafted with stunning results.

With a heavy helping of that all too often lost breathing space, all of the qualities that make this music so great are brought slap bang to the forefront, every track centers not just on technicality, but as it should be - on vibes, the EP encompasses five killer tracks all capable of destroying any dance floor.

With the lead track 'Dub Soldier' being handed only to a handful of DJ's thus far (whist the rest is being kept fresh) the A side of the EP has already featured on BBC Radio 1 and received praise and support from the likes of Friction, Calyx & Teebee, Ant TC1 & DLR.

Its E.P time again from Dispatch, this time with the release of the huge Objection E.P featuring two solo outings from Dabs alongside some killer colabs that include the production prowess of both Safire & Cern with the added bonus of Mako, DLR and Dispatch’s own Ant TC1 on remix duties.

The E.P confidently twists through a journey of atmospheric darkness with the tracks Objection, Inner Circle and the remix of Back and Forth providing Dispatches signature rolling deepness, with the track Hell Rose providing a perfect contrast of light with a combination of smooth pads and haunting vocal. Finishing off, Crunch Bag steps up the energy rate with a slab aimed squarely at key time dance floor movement, almost certainly a guaranteed floor destroyer.

Objection has featured on Friction's BBC Radio 1 show on Ant TC1’s own guest mix whilst the DLR, Mako & Ant TC1's remix of the Dispatch classic "Back & Forth" has been championed by the likes of Break, Survival, and Xtrah - again proving the EP's worth and highlighting the tried and tested stamp of Dispatch quality.

Jaydan's signature take on jump up turns heads in any set, and the new Journeys EP is no exception. Heavyweight vibes lace the six track collection and will be sure to keep even the hardest DnB heads going into the early hours. 

The euphoric opening of 'Thrillseekers' sets the tone, quickly stepping into murkier territory with fat low-ends and screeching highs blended in with a stunning vocal hook. 'Late Night Drive' wades in deeper currents, an undeniable bass swell takes centre stage with the producer opting for the minimal route with maximum effect. Similarly the frantic bedlam of 'Lonely Days' seems just as effortless, a hint of the junglist bleeds through whilst still keeping the lid on a menacing bassline. 'Menace' equally smashes it and certainly one to look out for in the crates of the Playaz camp. '1952' reveals the true extent of Jaydan's production capabilities, an all together more laid back approach, jazz samples and down-tempo feel offer the perfect wind down after a heavy night. Last but definitely not least the Annix lads take the reins on 'The Driller Killer', their stamp the final touches to an affirmed stomper.

Bringing intelligently dark drum and bass to the masses is a difficult job, but somebody's gotta do it. This time Mortem takes Demand's hot seat to encourage two tracks with the hard-hitting firepower and sub pressure of a depth charge.
Utilising old school flavours for “Malfunction” while maintaining that technical bite, writhing rhythms are sucked in through his unique sampling vortex to create a track that's all about movement. Multi-layered and thick with attitude, its behemoth of a bassline is barely contained by intricately woven techy percussion.
As one of drum & bass' most reliable sources of prolific high quality, Mortem rises above the rest time and again with his unique take on deep, intelligent beats. This release showcases his love for depth, texture and movement but also his capacity for creativity, which comes in droves.
