GRAVE121 - Des Ark 'Everything Dies'
Out October 6th, 2015

During the last decade, Aimée Collet Argote has had more bands called Des Ark than she has albums under that name. She's howled and jerked in sweaty houses and rock clubs, backed by a drummer, another drummer, yet another drummer and a second guitarist, and a small symphony. She's brought big crowds to a whisper with nothing but her voice and a banjo or a tiny guitar that kept slipping out of tune. And though it perennially confuses the crap out of crowds expecting one thing & getting the other, she somehow manages to maintain these two separate Des Ark's -- different songs, utterly different audience experiences -- and the dissonance & tension in turn somehow bind together in a brilliant display of songwriting. 

Des Ark just finished up their 3rd full length, "Everything Dies", with a host of collaborators & engineers including Andy Lemaster (Bright Eyes/Drive By Truckers), Jonathan Fuller (Engine Down/Denali), Brian Paulson (Wilco/Beck), Jordan Geiger (Shearwater/Hospital Ships), Taylor Holenbeck (Appleseed Cast) & Thor Harris (Swans). It is scheduled to be released October 6th, 2015 on Graveface Records.

Des Ark - Ties

This demo of "Weekend Mohawk" was recorded by Frankie in an unknown motel room in Washington state Oct of 2014 using garageband, a usb microphone, and a casio keyboard. One of the batteries in the casio keyboard was loose creating a distorted bass sound that cannot be reproduced.

Knife Pleats is the newest project from the prolific Rose Melberg, whose past projects include Tiger Trap, The Softies, Go Sailor, Gaze, Imaginary Pants, PUPS, and several solo records. The first singles from the Vancouver-based project, which features Kaity McWhinney and Tracey Vath of Love Cuts and drummer Gregor Phillips, recall the sounds Melberg is most known for: crisp and bouncy guitar pop and heartfelt lyrics. 

On “One Step Too Far,” Melberg contemplates the passage of time (“Please don’t change too much too fast these days won’t last long”) against lively arraignments. “Terrible” is slightly more pensive, a reflection of the inner workings of a relationship. Both tracks are sure to appeals to Melberg fans old and new.

Static in Verona is the work of Chicago musician Rob Merz, which brings electronic and experimental elements into a predominantly indie pop sound. After a stint in other musical projects over many years, this is Merz’s own solo work with every element – writing, performing every instrument and keeping the production in his hands.

After the draining three-year process it took to make Static in Verona’s second album “Everything You Knew Before You Knew Everything,” Merz decided to take a different approach on its follow-up and instead of meticulously writing then recording the music, Merz started with very loose ideas and then experimented with the structure and instrumentation in the studio. This creative freedom opened the door many new sounds and unexpected twists that may not have happened otherwise. Merz also focused on keeping the collection concise, catchy and upbeat to further engage the listener. The finished product is "Odd Anthem," Static in Verona’s third album, available now.
