Hounds and Whores

Composed for 'Ears have Ears' on FBi Radio Sydney. Melbourne drummer Maria Moles exclusive piece focuses on the use of interweaving sustained drones/melodies with scattered rhythms, creating a dense sound world of ambience for the listener. 

Maria Moles has performed extensively as part of a band and solo, supporting such acts as The Internet, Methyl Ethel, Polica, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizzard, Jaala and Hiatus Kiayote as well as performing at such festivals as Women’s Jazz Festival, Falls Festival, Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Tilde New Music Festival, Sugar Mountain Festival, Mona Foma and Dark Mofo. Beyond this she's also collabarated with the likes of Marcus Mckenzie's Hyperspirit, Hobart Improvisers Collective, MIUC Big Band, Lucas Abela, Francis Plagne and the Josh Kelly Trio. 

Maria's solo project 'Mondo Flockard' explores the use of layering sounds/rhythms played on either drum kit/percussion which are then electronically manipulated through the use of filters and pitch modulators. Her self-titled EP was released in 2016 through Tonelist, and was listed on Avant Music News under Best Albums of the Year 2016. Ian Parsons (PBS Sounds From Beneath the Sound Barrier presenter)  described it as "drumming taken into a new territory, hovering somewhere around sharp-edged electro-acoustics and unsettled ambience".
