1 a day challenge (5/23 - 5/31)

I remember 98 like it was yesterday
Cold december day, see my dad packin his luggage, stoppin to meditate
Askin for the strength to lead his family to a better place
And contemplatin is it best to leave or is it best to stay
But for the sake of me and my sisters
Left his home, the only thing he had left were the pictures
Just thinkin bout the future, to the land of the free
American dream, without him and his efforts, where would I be, he ended up being
Stuck in a cleaners with my mom on the side, doin alterations
Look hard in her eyes, she cries at the altar prayin
Every mornin before, she reports to her first job
As I got older, the reason I started to curse God
But at the time, I was too young to really get it
My mom would go and grab a paper towel and wet it
Going from house to house alone to clean the blinds
She'd buy me a meal while she just watchin me from the side, I cry whenever I remember

I remember 98 touched down, here's the rundown 
Landed in california to georgia, then to virginia somehow
I used to think that it was fun how
We would go around the neighborhood, house to house
Ignorant as kid, I used to bounce around, excited
Casually invited all of my friends over
Not knowin, in reality, my parents would bend over backwards
Just to provide that extra meal
To the rest of my homies
To the best of their abilities never did lesser
Never showed signs of stress or anything close to it
Always kept they heads up even at times when most wouldn't 
When I got a job at the bank, that's when the fun really stopped
When I saw my parents account, and how much love really cost
But at the time, I was too young to get it
My dad would go and grab a paper towel and wet it
Gettin up out the house, I found out that it was due to the size
He'd smile at me while he watch from outside, I cry whenever I remember
