Asylum celebrates 4 years of crazyness and quality music with Danny Howells. This is Danny's first time dropping in on Hawaii!

Danny's been around for bloody ages .. a bit too long actually, although he still has his own hair, albeit slowly greying, and can still squeeze into his favourite 32 inch waist flares on a good day.

He plays other people's records all over the place (and occasionally some of his own), sometimes he does it well, other times not so well, but he tries his absolute best and always has the best time in the world and encourages you to join him, cheers!

He has a record label called Dig Deeper which is fabulous, has done lots of compilations and is generally pretty damn ace.

He's not one of those DJs who wins awards or anything that's worth boasting about here, but don't let that put you off.

His favourite TV show is Coronation Street closely followed by Eastenders and he's currently on the lookout for someone to write a decent biography for him.

For this very special 100th edition of the Crosstown Mix Show, we invited Sir Pete Tong, longstanding friend of the label, to deliver a mix that gives insight into where this all started from. 

Soul, jazz & funk was the sound that planted the seeds of everything we know today about dance music. As one of the early adopters of this jazz funk scene, Pete started his career playing these tunes in small pubs and clubs in the UK in the 80s, signed and promoted this music, and had a helping hand in running the soul music weekenders that would pave the way for festivals as we know them today. 

Hosting the Essential Mix on Radio One since 1993, we pay our respects to Pete by inviting him to mix this brilliant 100th show. We continue.

A spontaneous recording but nothing spontaneous about the selection of music. The scene now is a different landscape to its formative years. Is there such thing as the underground. Are we being too precious about this term in today's digital age we live in. All I know and still believe is that substance shouldn't be compromised regardless. Because this is what remains timeless.

It's a 5 hour love letter mix recorded live at one of my residency gigs in London and which feels like a personal journal of sorts. Something I'm hoping you resonate with in some capacity as it treads the line between what may be deemed as mainstream, is a mix that remains forward thinking both in selection and more importantly in the programming.

It's raw, unedited live, and loaded with the emotion in each song featured.. ❤️

DAIN honed the craft of mixing at some of the most infamous clubbing institutions in New York City history - including main floor Saturday residencies at the Limelight (1999-2003) and Spirit/former Twilo (2003-2004), as well Avalon, The Tunnel, Exit2, Filter 14, Liquids, MK (now Highline Ballroom), Leopard Lounge, Le Souk, among many others. His uplifting deep/tech house sets could also be heard at every venue imaginable in Gotham the likes of Pacha NYC, ARC (formerly Vinyl), Sound Factory, Shelter, Centrofly, Discotheque, Opium Den, the Frying Pan, and more that would lead to playing sets across N. America, Asia and Europe - as far away as Tokyo, Osaka, Shanghai, London, Amsterdam & Dubai; including sets @ WMC, Burning Man, BPM Festival, & radio mixes for Proton, Frisky, and EDMRadio. Performing for hundreds to thousands of dedicated punters on a weekly basis helped him learn to read the crowd in any situation, but perfecting the art of opening utilizing record knowledge spanning across many genres remains a favorite specialty.
