Motherless Children

After living in sparsely populated rural locations throughout British Columbia for the majority of last summer, I moved back to Vancouver to continue my education in electroacoustic music at the School for Contemporary Arts within Simon Fraser University. Shortly after my relocation, the idea of the 'metropolis' began to resonate throughout my subconscious. I wanted to focus on the city as an essential cultural hub and centre for creativity, as well as a melting pot that inspires great music. Within that idea, two important epicenters of musical creation began to emerge... Motown records having offices there, and the legendary James Yancey (J Dilla) calling these places home: the idea of Detroit and Los Angeles became the new creative fuel for my music. And thus, the CityScape EP was born.

I've incorporated samples from Gil Scott Heron's We Almost Lost Detroit & a Lauryn Hill vocal sample from Nas' If I Ruled The World, amongst other, less recognizable, microsamples, bits and pieces. These tracks are truly from the heart and so I hope you enjoy them.
