DOUG Bautista aka Humble Soul does it all right with his second album of true roots reggae originals. With The Scientist as producer/engineer and Peter Tosh Band/Soul Syndicate veterans as his core musicians,including St.Thomas's Jawge Hughes on keyboards,Los Angeles guitarist Dale Hauskins.
Bautista maintains a pure reggae groove whether giving thanks and praises to Jah or denouncing the frauds and posers who misrepresent Rastafari for commercial gain.

Douglas Arsinio Bautista is "Humble Soul" was born and raised in Hawaii, and is an ethnic mixture of Japanese and Filipino. After doing some acting and modelling in Hawaii, he relocated to Santa Monica, California. In California he wrote all the lyrics for and self-produced his first CD entitled "Good Lord, Thank You". "Good Lord, Thank You" has become a classic in the Hawaiian islands.

"Army Of Parasites" calls on freedom fighters worldwide to resist oppression with faith in Jah rather than violence. Other songs cover spiritual faith and handling stress in daily life. The music and Bautista's unaffected delivery ties all together.

Encompassing the spirit of aloha and the soul of reggae music, Hawaii's own Humble Soul continues to warm the hearts of music lovers from the shores of the Pacific rim to the blazing tip of South Africa with his distinctive style of honest "Hawaiian-Roots-Music". His poetic anthems and understated melodies have been consistently celebrated by concert and festival goer's of all kinds. Thankful in every way, Humble Soul feels very blessed by the tremendous support of his family of growing fans. He keeps a low profile off-stage, however, Humble Soul's passionate live delivery and recorded music speaks volumes.

Bautista, who grew up in Kahaluu and is "just Doug" off stage, opted out of the local reggae/Jawaiian scene in 1995 to try his luck with a purer "roots reggae" sound on the mainland.

"I wanted to see if I could do it there. I figured I'd give it a shot and when I got up there it wasn't as difficult as I thought. All you have to do is be true in your music no matter where you go.
"So I did the album up there, but when my son was born I wanted him to grow up here.
"Some people (in the music business) have told me I shouldn't mention my family but that's not me."

Since returning to Hawaii, Bautista has generally maintained a low profile by avoiding club work while sharing reggae concert stages with Don Carlos, Eek-A-Mouse, Damian and Julian Marley, and Shinehead. He has continued to write pure roots reggae music and released his second Humble Soul album, "Jah Love Supreme," in conjunction with Nunotani's Crucial Running Productions label.

This album brings the listener some entertaining, well dubbed tunes (some of them with vocal snippets of Humble Soul and April Weller here and there for good measure), which provide a glimpse of Scientist's effects-riddled style and mixing wizardry he's known and respected for.

Jamaica's Hopeton Brown, the mixing engineer who became known as Scientist, burst onto the reggae scene in the mid 70's with a reckless mixing style that seemed to outdo even legend King Tubby's wildest extravaganzas. He began his career as an engineer at King Tubby's Jamaican recording studio in 1978. Shortly afterwards he became a protege of King Tubby, and swiftly gained a reputation with his unique and innovative mixing style. Scientist soon became Jamaica's top recording engineer and worked with everyone imaginable, including Dennis Brown, Barrington Levy, Freddie McGregor, Dean Fraser, Linval Thompson, Augustus Pablo, The Heptones and many more. This led to a surge of albums mixed by Scientist from various sources throughout the 80's with "Scientist Meets The Space Invaders" being the most noteworthy.
Electronic Engineer & Dub Pioneer Hopeton Brown, professionally known as "The Scientist", was introduced to electronics at an early age by his father, who worked as a television and radio repair technician. He began building his own custom amplifiers and studio gear and was dubbed "The Scientist" due to his forward thinking concepts about the mixing board (i.e. moving faders & automation, documented in the 1980's). He quickly gained a reputation for his unique recording and mixing techniques, which echo to this day in the form of Dubstep and other styles of dance music. His recordings are now considered benchmarks in sound which highly influenced a new electronic music generation interested in remixing and sound experimentation. Engineer credits include albums for Reggae’s most illustrious artists as well as for Rock, Pop, and R&B superstars.

Switzerland's best symphonic progressive rock band of any consequence,Flame Dream released its third album, "Out In The Dark", in 1981.

Recorded at Patrick Moraz's legendary "Aquarius" studio in Geneva and surpassing 1979's excellent Elements, it is a classic of European progressive rock.

Amazingly, in continental Europe, brilliant, classic progressive rock music was still being produced with little regard for the prevailing winds of disco, new wave and punk.

Flame Dream had hit it big in Europe with release of "Elements", and were mounting huge, headlining tours of the continent every year for months at a time, hitting the road in five semi trucks and a crew of eighteen.

The band had even commandeered the Eden Hotel in Weggis, just across the Statter See from Lucerne, and set up for rehearsals in the historic building. Before hitting the road to promote Elements, the band decided to add a guitarist to their line up, and, on the advice of Brand X keyboardist Robin Lumley, Flame Dream picked up young Los Angeles guitarist Dale Hauskins.

After finishing high school in California, Dale decided to jump into the deep end of the pool and set off for London and its burgeoning prog/fusion scene. He haunted jam sessions at Rod Argent's keyboard shop for two years and had struck up friendships with Lumley, Peter Gabriel and Allan Holdsworth, among others.
He had obviously paid attention to Holdsworth, as Hauskins also displays the same fluid, legato style as his mentor, with phrasing that owes a strong debt to Coltrane.

The music on Out In The Dark continues in the same vein as on their preceding albums, with rich, keyboard heavy compositions by vocalist/wind instrument player Peter Wolf (son of the noted Swiss classical pianist and brother of classical/avant-garde composer and pianist John Wolf-Brennan) and keyboardist Roland Rockstuhl.

The album is divided into the first, the "Sun Side," and the second, the "Dark Side," and, although lyrically the "Sun Side" does deal with warmer, more upbeat sentiments, the music that accompanies the lighter side of the album is, with the exception of the opening tune, "Full Moon," overall the darker of the two sides. Side two, the "Dark Side" overflows with up tempo meter and bright themes.

The music begins with "Full Moon," a cross between UK and Supertramp, and the most poppy sounding track the band will give us this time. It is followed by one of my favorite cuts, "Nocturnal Flight," five and a half minutes of absolute symphonic joy.

The tune favors the late 70's style of Genesis, with keyboard work reminiscent of Tony Banks, and features a wonderful guitar solo by Hauskins. Side one ends with the brilliant title track, "Out In The Dark."

Beginning with a melancholy theme, we segue into a lovely melody on Peter Wolf's flute that sounds much like the intro to Hackett's guitar solo in "Firth Of Fifth."
 This turns onto some of the most nimble piano lines ever recorded and the piece develops an almost Italian flair before returning to it's opening motif.

Side two begins with "Wintertime Nights," which boasts some more great Tony Banks-like keyboard work. "Strange Meeting (Part One)" is another Genesis influenced tune, moving moodily across its stark landscape and exploding into brisk lines from Ruckstuhl's synthesizer. It is chased by "Caleidoscope," a herky-jerky instrumental that bursts with syncopated keyboard and sax lines, and at times comes across as Gentle Giant-lite. The album's final track, "Strange Meeting (Part Two)," is not a separate track at all, but a continuation of "Caleidoscope" with the imposition of the two main themes from "Strange Meeting (Part One)."

This is a great album, with high caliber musicianship constantly grabbing your attention, very well conceived and developed themes and wonderful production by John Acock, who handled most of Steve Hackett's solo albums. The similarities to Genesis are, with the exception of a couple of synth solos, entirely compositional, and no one is trying to emulate the "sound" of Genesis, as many other bands have certainly done.

Coming late to the game as they did, Flame Dream were, perhaps, not the most innovative band that ever was, but they carried on with true symphonic progressive rock long after many of the genres innovators had turned to pure pop sounds.

"Caleidoscope" (part 2) by Flame Dream

"Fuerza Pura" is the new single from Peligro Soundsystem and Paco Mendoza. A small work of art, which was created some time ago in Chile's vibrant capital Santiago. After attending a Cumbia Digital concert, Mikey Board and Paco Mendoza felt so inspired that they immediately got to work in their hotel room and wrote this song. Back in Germany, they were able to get multi-instrumentalist Yerar Chávez to record the virtuoso charango and flute parts for them. The result is a largely instrumental, quiet electro-cumbia, which combines Andean pentatonics, driving grooves and rich choirs to a true oasis of sound.

This album is nicely cooked with the help of the talented and crafty Misgana Mulat who did some wonderful job throwing down the drum tracks, keyboards, and the tight basslines.

Los Angeles Californian guitarist Dale Hauskins of African late reggae mega-star Majek Fashek, and England's Tippa Irie fame sweetened them up with some wicked guitar licks.

Everything mixed-blended together by the legendary Jamaican bassist Fully Fullwood of Bob Marley/Peter Tosh and Soul Syndicate fame. Giving it that authentic roots reggae feel yet maintaining the African groove.

The name is Obre4 (Struggling Man). And Reggae is the Vibe! 

Obre4 was born at Mampong, Akwapim, but grew up in Kumasi, Ashanti,Ghana. 

His mother is Akwapim and the father, Ewe. At a young age, Obre4 set out following the crowd to Nigeria in search of greener pastures during his country's worst times.

Listening to the Reggae Greats like Max Romeo, Justin Hinds, The Pioneers, Abyssinians, Culture, Burning Spear, Bob N' Peter among many Others, had a great impact on him and I believe that was when the Musical Seed was planted deep within. Disc jockeying when he returned to Ghana after the Mass Deportation, and watching the music grove and move the crowd nurtured that seed. He was in Abidjan, Cote D'Ivoire when Alpha Blondy came to the scene. 

He joined the U.S. Navy and soon after, Saddam Hussein flexed his muscles on Kuwait and he found himself in the Gulf (Desert Shield/Storm), and soon after that, Somalia (Operation Restore Hope). 

He had a bigger impact on him because he was local, and that was when Obre4 started to write his songs. When he finally got a break and got to the U.S. of A., at last! He said. The desire has always been music but instead, he joined the U.S. Navy and soon after, Saddam Hussein flexed his muscles on Kuwait and he found himself in the Gulf (Desert Shield/Storm), and soon after that, Somalia (Operation Restore Hope). 

After 4 years of active duty, Obre4 was discharged (honorably) only to join the merchant marine (seaman). 

He sailed on oil tankers for a few years and loved it but his music was suffering and kept calling him so he heeded to the call and enrolled in school (Conservatory Of Recording Arts/Sciences, Mesa, Arizona https://cras.edu), where he studied Audio Engineering and Music Production.
