Empire of the Sun's "Walking On A Dream" is one of the songs of our generation. It may not have been the band's biggest hit on release, but it has grown into an absolute monster since then. Kevin McKay's 2019 edit of it has been a dancefloor favourite since he first tested it out at his I Feel Love parties at Mick's Garage (now Colour Factory) in Hackney. Over the last five years, the DJ support for this killer rework has grown exponentially. This support culminated in a final play of the Music On season 2023 by Marco Carola. Clips of this have been shared on social media millions of times. With this amount of groundswell, we asked Simon Ellis back after his stellar performance on "Somebody That I Used To Know", and Kevin has rebuilt a backing with 2024 in mind (while still keeping the magic of that original edit). So now, for all the DJs asking, here is Kevin's version of "Walking On A Dream".

Milan-based DJ & producer Skylin3 is one of our favourite new artists. His version of this Beyonce classic dropped at the end of last year, and DJs loved it. From the underground tech (Miane, Alan Nieves, Jamie Jones) to the house heads (Erik Hagleton, Sam Supplier, CASSIMM) to those more used to big-stage bangers (Torren Foot, Wenzday, Shiba San), there was an outpouring of love. The wider DJ community might have slept on this one, so we asked Kevin McKay to deliver a VIP edit to see if this could get the ball rolling. He's jacked up the beats and added a powerful FM mid-bass to jet-propel the groove—proper peak-time business.

In terms of dance music, the most well-known is Trevor Jackson, whose groundbreaking covers for Soulwax sit shoulder to shoulder with his recordings as Playgroup. London's Samuel Muir joins the select group with this stunning collaboration with Kevin McKay. He has designed for A-list musicians (Khruangbin, Gorgon City, Deadmau5, Calvin Harris, Jessie Ware) and cool-as-you-like brands (Byron, Red Bull, Koya, Ace+Freak). For this release, he's taken inspiration from unashamedly big room club bangers to bring afro-tech flavours to this Seal-sampling slammer. Already tested by Kevin McKay to massive response at London's Roast party, this heady hypnotic journey is the perfect accompaniment to afro cuts by Band&dos, Malone and Nico De Andrea.

Rose Motion is one of our favourite new house music artists. The Canadian/Australian duo of Malik Garraway and Jamie-Rose Johnson have delivered some brilliant original cuts, and their collab with Fab Massimo ("Wanna Dance") was one of last year's best releases on Glasgow Underground. On "Shakin' That Thing", they join forces with Kevin McKay for a hypnotic deep house workout. A low-slung kick underpins rolling percussion and a loopy bass groove, while Rose Motion's killer vocal mixes with an emotion-packed melody reminiscent of Nick Morgan's "Shook Pt. 3".
