Sound Avenue Mixed 006 - Secretly Famous

This week we welcome special guest dj/producer Han Mike from Antwerpen, Belgium, who has been performing regular mix series on several global radio shows such as X Beat Radio (Belgium), Saturo Sounds (UK), Enter Radio (Argentina).
“In 2019 I started to work more seriously with music and mixing especially progressive house style. I've been into music for a long time and I've always been into DJing especially because my neighbour and his very good friend have been playing music for many years since I was a kid until today. I spent a lot of time with them, I was about 14 years old at that time, I don't remember exactly, but I was already completely captivated by the music and the whole disco feeling. Especially because I was the one who was controlling the lights. As a kid it was very magical and I thought it was cool. I was completely captivated by the whole atmosphere from a young age, although it was a completely different style that they were playing. Somewhere there was always a love of music in me and it never let me rest. I don't know why I didn't get into that line earlier. At one time I organised a few parties where I also played music as a "DJ". At that time I was attracted to techno and hard techno, and we played them at the parties. Looking back, they were really good parties. The progressive world really hit me about 8 years ago, at a Guy J’s party in Budapest, where I really fell in love with that sound and have been in love with it ever since. My style is mostly progressive house, with a harder edge, mixed with a bit of techno and electronic music characteristics. But I also like to play softer songs with a more progressive sound. In early 2020 I started a weekly show on an underground radio station, Hujujuj Radio. Here I played a weekly mix of new releases alongside the weekly party news and programme recommendations. I also have a weekly Missed Opportunity Session on my YouTube channel, where I mix new progressive house tracks that are also released during the week. From mid 2021 an Argentinian radio station (ENTER Radio) invited me to start a mix series for them and become a resident Dj on the radio, and I play my mix on the radio every 2 weeks. In August 2021 I was given the opportunity to play at the big name Friskiyradio station, which was a huge opportunity and an honor to play there. In December 2021 I started a mix series called Revolutions on the English Saturo Radio and became resident DJ there. In February 2022 I was asked by the Belgian X Beat Radio to start my own mix series called Through My Dreams. Unfortunately due to lack of time I only do one mix a month. Nowadays several foreign progressive house collecting sites (Worldwide Progressive House Music, Gravity Electronic Music, Electronic Music Madness) support and share my mixes. Nowadays, as time permits, I am developing my studio and I have started writing my own music which will be released soon.”

Hailing from Montreal, Canada, BiG AL is an internationally acclaimed Artist with Lebanese and Persian roots. With a career spanning over three decades, he has established himself as a prominent global figure.  

BiG AL's passion for music developed at a young age, leading him to immerse himself in the vibrant underground house sounds of London and New York. Recognizing the need to introduce Western club music and culture to his native Lebanon, he became a pioneer by hosting the country's first English-language radio show. He delighted listeners with his selection of underground house music and disco vinyl imported from the United States, the UK and Europe. However, seeking new horizons in a country ravaged by civil war, BiG AL decided to explore beyond his homeland.

In the early 1990s, BiG AL arrived to the United States and swiftly became an integral part of the club scene. He frequented renowned venues like the Sound Factory, Red Zone, Limelight, Shelter, Tunnel, Twilo, Palladium/Arena, and Arc/Vinyl, immersing himself in the transformative sounds of legendary DJs such as Junior Vasquez, Danny Tenaglia, Masters At Work, Roger Sanchez, Frankie Knuckles, David Morales, Tony Humphries, Francois K., and Todd Terry.

As a true global citizen, BiG AL has resided in various countries, including the UK, Cyprus, Switzerland, France, Germany, Morocco, and the UAE, as well as cities like Boston, New York, Los Angeles, and Montreal. Throughout his journey, he has collaborated with esteemed artists such as Frankie Knuckles, David Morales, Angel Moraes, Danny "Buddha" Morales, Satoshi Tomiie, Chus & Ceballos, The SBS Slammer "Shorty," John Creamer, Omid 16B, Nick Warren, Hector Romero, Jay Tripwire, Victor Calderone, DJ Vibe, and many others, engaging in diverse musical projects, bookings and establishing professional relationships.

In 1996, BiG AL earned a Marketing degree from North Eastern University in Boston, followed by a degree in computer-assisted sound design & engineering in 1999. Equipped with this knowledge, he embarked on a creative production journey that resulted in impressive collaborations and a discography of over 700 releases. He released music under his own name as well as various aliases like BiGz, Beat Factory, Harlem Knights, Audio Lab, Soul Collective, Da3boul, and The Suppliers. His productions found homes on more than 200 record labels, including Global Underground, King Street, Ministry of Sound, Armada, Toolroom, iRecords, Anjunadeep, and Oh! Records Stockholm to name but a few.

He represents the Techno Station collective from Gorzów on a daily basis, and also collaborates as a promoter with German label Artminding and Hungarian label Bemassive Records, among others. 

He is the founder of the MELODIC.DEEP.HOUSE music blog, which was originally designed to promote the local electronic scene beyond the borders of Poland in the form of a podcast series called LOCAL SUPER HEROES. As he himself says, it is his "apple of the eye" and currently features representatives from foreign labels such as Watergate Records, Rebellion der Traumer, and Diynamic Music.
