Producers are the backbone of any label; developing supportive and genuine relationships with our artists is the core principle of XYZ's development. Our Oppo series is an ode to the figures that we feel are at the foundation of the label's journey thus far.

Mitch Oliver has cemented himself as a pillar of XYZ's artistic direction over the last few years. He's caressed two of the imprint's most emblematic tracks to date. Same Light seized attention with a remix from the one-and-only Hernan Cattaneo, before the sensational Alleghanys skyrocketed to global applause. His Exil EP continued his bespoke impact on the label, and now we pass him the wheel on our seminal series - Oppo.

Oppo gives full creative control to the producer, who essentially functions as the label head on the project. Curating sounds from artists around the world who've influenced his journey thus far, as well as a pristine production of his own, Mitch Oliver presents a project that fully represents his tastes as an artist.

On the A-side, Mitch connects with Carl Sylvestre with an instant classic. 'When You Run' cuts deep into the groove, providing soaring emotive energy with sensational vocal work.

Label favorites Death on the Balcony return to XYZ on the B-side. 'One Big Circle' captures all that we love about the British duo, harnessing timeless house tones with blissful spoken word.

Germany's Flowers On Monday continues the backbone of Oppo - deep melodic movement with crisp basslines carrying the groove from start to finish. 'Dream On' is a delightful offering from two of the scenes finest gents.

Mexico's Eduardo McGregor will be well known to the When We Dip family, as he's been an essential artist on our TOR imprint. He comes correct with playful percussion and swaying synthetic sounds on 'The Hunter'.

David Orin is back! The New Yorker never fails to provide the magic. 'Turquoise' welcomes an Eastern edge, as soothing and surreal vibes rise with an underlying quality that is omnipresent with Orin's work.

Closing out this prolific project is a collaboration between Bodaishin & Lupe Republic. 'Oceans' features NiN, with chopped vocal cuts balancing dreamy delights to ease us out of Oppo.

Third extract taken from Tal Fussman's forthcoming debut full-length on the newly formed Survival Tactics, 'Move Your Hips' does exactly what's written on the tin.

Slicing off a jazzed-out belter of a tune, Fussman pulls out a force-field of FX-drenched hard-bop Rhodes, altered robotic vox and purebred Chicagoan shuffle to subjugate everything and everyone in its wake. Masterly hugging the bend between an avalanche of mad-hatter electro-acoustic chords tumbling and jolting in falsely chaotic style - think an AI-powered big band gone wild, and a retro-futuristic house churn that packs a serious punch, the Israeli-born, Berlin-based producer swings the pendulum with strapping impact throughout. A buoyant piece of roaring twenties-laced athletics for the now and tomorrows, which will satisfyingly quench some of the thirst for new Fussman material, en route to the big drop later this year.

Plaisirs Sonores Records announce the release of 'Gems, pt. 1', their first-ever VA featuring three talented artists from different parts of the world: Maezbi and Paul (AR), both from Argentina, and Savvas from Greece. The release showcases the unique sounds and styles of each artist, making it a must-listen for fans of electronic music.

Maezbi's track "Wonderland" is a beautiful, easy-listening progressive tune that draws listeners in with its lush synths and soothing melodies, complemented by a beautiful spoken male vocal. 'Promoter, DJ and producer, Anton Tumas has been at the vanguard of the underground dance scene for a number of years, now, he debuts on Balance Music with a stunning new interpretation of an all-time classic.

A DJ who has played at the Robot Heart at Burning Man, Desert Hearts, and Lightning in a Bottle, plus founder of the Subtract residency and label of the same name. Anton is also no stranger to the world of music production with releases on quality labels such as All Day I Dream, Sudbeat Music and Subtract.

Over 2-years in the making and also presented in the all-enveloping Dolby Atmos format, “The Sky Was Purple” is a painstaking and hugely impressive recreation of Nathan Fake’s iconic track. Centred around the James Holden remix, this new reworking is a glorious and faithful representation of a timeless classic that oozes class and technique. Immaculate in conception, this 12-minute journey extends the original and takes it in stunning new directions as familiar melodies and progressions are blended with modern production techniques. The result is an exquisite new variation of a classic that drives relentlessly forward in majestic fashion further enhanced by the addition of a beatless Reprise that showcases the spellbinding aural tapestry.

A stellar cast of remixes opens with iconic German artist, Andre Lodemann. A veteran of releases on the likes of Poker Flat and Defected, the Berlin-based producer has created an innovative new interpretation that turns “The Sky Was Purple” on its head. Familiar pads and soundscapes float across a rolling beat before a growling bassline enters the fray. A sprawling landscape of sounds fire across the stereo spectrum before a new arpeggiated sequence then hits the heights with a nod firmly towards James Holden’s original phrasing.

Next up is the highly skilled and prolific producer Jamie Stevens who is no stranger to reworking classic tracks. Retaining the core melodic themes of the original, his skill is to generate a new vision that bristles with bassline brio and reverse reverb. The central melodic pilar gently filters into sonic range in the early stages and breakdown, before erupting in the second half with an exquisite snarling bass sequence that glides with ease against the trademark synth line so fundamental to the original.

Another Australian producer with decades of experience is Danny Bonnici, and a name synonymous within the electronic music scene, returns to his best with a blistering remix aimed directly at the dancefloor. Driven by a chest-thumping kick and head-shaking percussive groove, his remix then blends original elements from “The Sky Was Purple” with a host of sounds and atmospheric effects that swim in dizzying fashion around the listener’s head, especially at the stripped back breakdown. Evocative pads reach through the mix as the track gains momentum once more in frenzied fashion during a dramatic closing movement.'
