It is, of course, no surprise that there Selador catalogue is peppered with stellar contributions from Da Boss (job share) Steve Parry. Indeed, many of them are undoubtedly among our finest moments – tracks like ‘Fenner’, ‘303V’ and ‘Squidfist’ are both close to our hearts and the signal for serious dancefloor carnage whenever dropped.

Over the last couple of years, Steve has focused on some choice collabs – among them his ‘Marmalade Skies’ hook up with Renato Cohen, one of the label’s biggest tunes in The Year of Big Tunes that was our 10th birthday; while the Nunchi Coup team up with partner Dave Seaman produced a trio of big hitters that racked up the streams.

However, Steve’s last solo outing was (checks notes…) – 2020?! Parry, you lazy &*£*&$!!! Anyway, “we’ll deal with that internally”. The good news is that while the follow-up to that year’s mighty double header of ‘Roll the Dice’ and ‘What You Make It’ may fall into the “long awaited” bracket, it certainly fits the “worth the wait” bill. In true Ste Pazza style, it morphs genres for fun – it’s deep but squelchily acidic, heads down progmungous but with the catchiest of ‘light touch’ vocal hooks, all riding atop a techno train.

Meanwhile, we’re delighted to usher another label debutant through the door marked ‘so delighted to have you on board’ – yes sireee, Dachshund is in the building. What’s more, he delivers a remix which does what too many re-rubs don’t do – it acknowledges and utilises key elements from the original version. However, it does so while effortlessly blending in a plethora of fresh riffage, from the melodic to the klangtastic. Bullseye.

'Brai' sounds smooth and emotional, it's one of those hypnotic tracks that has the ability to put the dancefloor into a trance.

LTR Premiere: Joseph Kaz & Thales Senses – Toscana (Lucas Zárate Remix) [MDL]

The latest release on Madloch's Sound Avenue finds the label showcasing the third remix edition for about:river's ‘24 Years Apart' album. First up is Hobin Rude who continues to impress with releases via Juicebox Music, Mango Alley and The Soundgarden. With great success, the Serbian artist takes ‘Seven Cats' into his elusive world of deep beats, emotive melodies and thought provoking atmospheres. Moving forward, Hot Tuneik returns to the label following a series of releases for his Guateque Music imprint. The Mexican artist adds his magical production touch to ‘Disappeared', resulting in a peak time interpretation that finds a cohesive balance between progressive house and melodic techno. Making his label debut with the lone interpretation of ‘Keep Awake' is Mattim. Beloved for his releases via Juicebox Music and Mango Alley, the Argentine adds a dark production touch to the track, complete with menacing synth mutations and a charged groove for those darker dancefloor moments. Rounding out the release is Noble Spirits who make their label debut on the strength of releases for Kiksuya, Nordic Voyage and their own Dialtone Records imprint. The Mexican duo brings a deep, organic sensibility to ‘Frozen', not only adding further depth to the project, but capping the release off on a subtle yet heartfelt note.

Jim Rider has grown ever more prominent in recent years. The UK artist is not only a slick DJ and producer but also a promoter, so he understands the dance floor from all different angles. He has previously released on the likes of Lee Burridge’s All Day I Dream and Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden, as well as worked with Kindisch, Akbal Music, and his own imprint, Signs. He has played across the world and topped many digital charts, and now, he ends 2024 with a standout new tune.

His wonderful 'Squaring Circles' pairs fresh house drums with a swirling cosmos of colourful melodies, digital ripples and alluring vocals. They are harmonised with themselves and have a serene vibe as foreground hooks and background loops all intertwine to hypnotic effect.

London Grammar - Hell To The Liars (James Mackie Bootleg)

Jim Rider has been a key figure in the Electronic Music scene in recent years as a DJ, producer and promoter and is now a truly global artist in his own right. After a short hiatus from the studio, Jim’s artistic drive has continued to thrive in incredible fashion which has seen him release on leading labels including Lee Burridge’s All Day I Dream, TRYBESof and Tale & Tone labels, Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden and Kindisch. This rediscovery also saw the inception of “Signs”, a label founded and curated by Jim to further showcase his own productions and the music of those who share and are aligned with his musical vision reaffirming that Rider has the attention of the dance community’s most influential tastemakers. 

Bursting onto the scene, his 5-track “Popcorn & Politics” EP on TRYBESof was a #1 Beatport category release with follow ups reaching the Organic House top 5 tracks on numerous occasions with records such as his tough yet melodic collab with vocalist Black Soda “Final Straw” plus his standout hit “Two More Days” both on All Day I Dream and the eastern flavoured “In Theory” on Akbal Music. 

2022 was Jim’s true breakout year which saw his debut on All Day I Dream “The Final Straw EP” receive critical acclaim with all four tracks (Final Straw, Los Que Caen, The Cypriot & Rascals) taking over the Beatport charts. His collab EP and a return to Tale & Tone with Eduardo McGregor hit the #4 spot and he made his debut on Nick Warren’s influential label “The Soundgarden. 2023 saw more of the same with further releases on TRYBESof, All Day I Dream and Musique De Lune. Support for his music continues to go from strength to strength with regular support from the world’s biggest DJ’s including Lee Burridge, Nick Warren, Guy Gerber, Hernan Cattaneo, Blond:Ish, Sébastien Léger, Eelke Kleijn, Tim Green, Steve Lawler and many more consistently getting behind Rider’s releases. 

It’s not just in the production space where Rider excels. With dates across Mexico (Tulum, Playa Del Carmen, Juarez, Campeche, Merida and more) where he now calls home for the time being, as well as North American tours taking in the All Day I Dream Festival in California plus numerous club shows in Miami, San Diego, Chicago, New York City, Washington DC, San Francisco, Toronto, Montreal and many more. 2023 also saw Jim’s first Burning Man where (despite the rain) he played at The Playground, Never Sleep Again and Celtic Chaos stages. This year also marked his debut performances in Bali and Australia as well as first visits to Central and South America with shows in Costa Rica, Panama, Argentina and Brazil.

Further afield, he has covered Dubai, the UK, France as well as various shows in Spain and has so far enjoyed two summers as weekly resident for All Day I Dream as they announced full Ibiza seasons every Thursday at the island’s beautiful Cova Santa. 

With an ever impressive list of career achievements to date, Rider has firmly established himself on the electronic music map making him a name to know and watch out for for many many years to come.
