True dedication is difficult to find these days, as is motivation when digital media has overthrown old school methods, which makes running a label an even more sinuous mission. Despite a wealth of hurdles that increasingly come with the territory, this hasn’t put an end to people’s desire to push out their own imprints. Concurrently, the same digital revolution that has thrown off the industry has also made it possible for many projects to come into the spotlight, and many of these have made a spectacular difference. Whether it’s smaller side projects of well known artists, serving up quirkier, more experimental tracks, enabling further sonic exploration, or newborn collectives doling out fresh takes on contemporary sound, 2017 has been a prolific year for record labels.
But it’s not just the approach related to creating and promoting labels that has shifted recently. In recent times, the way we make and consume music has transformed as well. A label’s role has changed into that of a full on curator, influencing current musical trends based on their selection of outputs. But it’s not a status that is easily achieved, by all means.
Moving at its own pace, ten years in the world of dance music come as a century in real life, as dancefloor trends fluctuate. In such a surrounding, creating timeless pieces is essential when maintaining a high calibre establishment. But thanks to platforms such as Soundcloud or the ever-pervasive social media channels, it’s easy to showcase tracks and kick off labels without needing the once coveted record deal. Nevertheless, record labels serve as beacons in a world where we’re inundated by more and more content.
More than just a release platform, labels are indispensable partners in artists’ careers as the one to curate only the best music, accompany it with according designs, as well as bringing in new marketing ideas or even music videos. Shir Khan’s Exploited label has been a true example of such a label, hand-picking new producers to showcase, nurturing them from early beginnings into popular household names.

Shir Khan’s strong ear for talent has seen him responsible for launching the careers of Claptone, Adana Twins, Joyce Muniz through their releases on Exploited, the label also providing a platform for established remixers and artists such as Siriusmo, Freeform Five, Munk, Modeselektor, John Tejada, Phil Weeks, Cosmin TRG, Locked Groove, Deetron, Detroit Swindle, Acid Pauli, Ralph Lawson...

The 24th release on microCastle sees two of electronic music's most loved producers Henri Hurtig aka Cid Inc. and Peter Goylan aka Lank back together for 2 more studio collaborations to follow up their 'Our Benefactors' EP from October of 2010. The 'Emotional Self' EP comes with two new original productions and remixes from: Microtrauma and Jamie Stevens. The 'Emotional Self' original gets the EP off on a very serious note. Cid Inc's titanium coated beats have never been more poignant or impactful. Jagged subby tones and a profoundly subversive bass line that reaches rib cage breaking depths sits at the foundation. Draped with sheets of percolating effects a futuristic and deeply thought provoking set of tone bending chords wash over the composition which creates a rather daunting and ominous mood. The composition peaks following an unsettled and foreboding breakdown with the lead chords warping and twisting their way to a momentous sonic conclusion.

The lone remix of 'Emotional Self' is provided by the German based duo Microtrauma who are famed for their outstanding productions on Traum; most notably 'Circulate'. Their recent 'Reflection' EP also on Traum has been heralded by many melodic techno fans as the EP of the year thus far and has earned serious praise from Hernan Cattaneo. 'Emotional Self' has been reconstructed by Microtrauma into a more techno inspired piece. The moody theme from the original is maintained and presented with a tougher and even more warped sensibility which should wreak havoc on even the most discerning dance floors. Microtrauma's dynamic fills, futuristic sound design and ultra sharp transitions lead to a tension filled drop that climaxes with a seriously buzzing groove and an enthralling finale. Already charted by Hernan Cattaneo Microtrauma's 'Emotional Self' remix looks to go down as one of their coolest productions all year.

The second original on the package 'Urban Biorhythm' comes with a rolling, cavernous bass line and an undeniable big room feel. Themed around an irresistible synth hook and a tone trembling tension filled drop 'Urban Biorhythm' has turned out to be the perfect complement to the more heady 'Emotional Self'. A Dub version of Urban Biorhythm has also been included which focuses on another one of Lank's rumbling grooves and layers of momentous hypnotic rhythms.

The lone remix of 'Urban Biorhythm' is supplied by Jamie Stevens who has achieved an amazing level of critical and commercial success over the course of his career. As one of Australia's most talented and sought after music producers, he has proven his skill in professional sound design, music scores for film and contemporary dance music. As the founding member of Infusion, the much-loved Australian electronic live act, he's left his mark around the globe, headlining some of the biggest and most respected clubs including; Fabric- London, Pacha - Buenos Aires, Womb- Tokyo and festivals such as Glastonbury, Coachella, Roskilde and Creamfields in Moscow, Brazil, UK and Argentina. In his home country, Infusion received 2 prestigious ARIA awards for their work. Here at microCastle we've been huge fans of Jamie's for years so we were thrilled to finally find a project for him. For his 'Urban Biorhythm' interpretation Jamie has completely overhauled the huge progressive original into a funky, wobbly, orchestral techno mix for the ages. An irresistibly chunky groove is complemented with gorgeous piano accents, shuffling drums and panoramic, widescreen synths for what results in one of Jamie's most unique and inspiring studio creations to date. An understated anthem for the ages from Mr. Stevens and a perfect close to Cid Inc. & Lank's second EP for microCastle.

Exclusive Fred Everything feat. Jinadu 'Silverlight (Ian Pooley Dub)'

With Lazy Days' latest EP 'Silver Light' label head Fred Everything makes us believe that there is still House Music which is made with soul, House Music that sets itself apart from the ordinary, House Music so deeply touching that it reminds its audience of reasons of falling for the genre in the first place. With a career lasting longer than two decades and being a musical mainstay and inspiration for many, Fred Everything and foremost his productions have remained relevant until the present days, which is not mere coincidence but the result of hard work and dedication. 'Silver Light', which was originally released on Fred Everything's album 'Long Way Home' back in June 2018, underwent the remix treatment by House-icon Ian Pooley, who provides - alongside Mr. Everything's original version and instrumental - a remix and a dub version of the latter. Ian's remix dub, which - of course - spares Jinadu's vocals, offers its listeners the possibility to dig deeper into the chords and therefore the melodic approach of his remix-work that unfolds a hypnotically knock-on effect throughout the track. Ian Pooley hits the heart and dance floor artistically skillful - just as expected, fairly and squarely said.

Fred Everything's EP 'Silver Light' will be released on November 16th, 2018 on Lazy Days Recordings.

'Carving out an enviable reputation across the globe for his distinctive and highly personal brand of House music, Kiko Navarro’s voyage of sonic discovery has been going strong for almost three decades now. From London to the Far East, Kiko has travelled far and wide with his music, embracing sounds from each continent as he goes. 
 
Kiko’s new album, Afroterraneo- also named after his music label- defines the sound of his home. The album incorporates sounds touched by the Mediterranean Sea, drawing influences from Europe, Africa and his roots in the Balearic Islands. Afroterraneo is all about fusion. It includes Afro-Cuban songs like "Okere", "Karabali" and "Ekobio Monina", Midwest-African flavour on "Ihabogi Rawaly" and "Beréde", Flamenco with "La Fatiga", Balearic emotions with maestro Joan Bibiloni on "El Salto Del Martin" and "Vida", South African vibes on "Olwakhuthando", Afro Mbira lines with European TB303 acid blips on "Cacao Ceremony" and it all ends with his own tribute to his mother on "Para Mama".
 
Born on Mallorca, Kiko’s sound reflects the sun-drenched, slow living atmosphere of the Balearic island he still calls home. Obsessed from an early age with the more soulful side of US House music, Navarro’s DJ skills soon attracted the attention of nightlife behemoth Pacha who offered him club residencies both in Palma and in Ibiza. Next came a monthly gig at Space Ibiza and the rest, as they say, is history. 
 
A true Renaissance Man; now also a family man, today’s Kiko Navarro is perhaps even more focused and dedicated to his life in music than ever before. An album tour this year will see him play DJ sets in Italy, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Greece, Japan, South Korea, China with many more to be confirmed. Whether in the studio crafting records or in the club controlling the dance-floor, Kiko’s musical mission has become the habit of a lifetime.'

Next up on the Alola classic series, 16B’s ‘Escape (Driving To Heaven) is re-invigorated with 3 remasters for inclusion in the recently launched Alola Classic series. Originally released in 2001 on Hooj Tunes, Escape garnered support from the electronic music elite and featured as the opening track on Deep Dish’s chart topping ‘Global Underground 021: Moscow’ compilation, whilst also being included on Hernan Cattaneo’s seminal Renaissance mix. As the name title suggest, ‘Escape’ captures an uplifting spirit that climbs and climbs, the perfect embodiment of early naughties progressive house. On vocals, Richard Morel narrates the journey and further adds to the uplifiting aesthetic. On remix duties Omid and Francisco Savier provide deep, dark tribal takes on the original whilst Ignas retains more of the original’s euphoric nature. Rounding off the package Maher Daniel’s previously unreleased mix captures a dreamy, chill-out vibe in blissful fashion.
