Deep in the mix

As the dynamic track titles suggest, Dave Angel wanted to go all out Techno for his new release for John Digweed’s Bedrock. “Power” and “Venom” are two monumental tracks to mark another supreme return to the label from the Godfather of the UK’s Techno scene.

Knowing that John is a fan of that classic 303 bassline / acid sound and had previously given a lot of support to his “Tomahawk” track from the  “Voodoo EP” (Beddigi47), Dave felt it was time to delve deeply into the favourite toys that he’s been working creatively for the last couple of years - the TR-8 and TB-3 machines from the new Roland Aira Range, for this latest offering.

The distinctly weighty intro to “Power”, overlaid with the snap and hiss of perfect percussive hits, builds and builds with subtle ease via a simmering, bubbling analogue throb, sparse melodic flourishes and a supremely unhurried, teasing arrangement. The end result is a super-fuelled, energetic, euphoric masterclass of a track. 

Meanwhile, the speedy, hissing, bounce of “Venom” is also an instant winning formula, with layered, looping melodic hooks building all the track’s elements into a hip-swinging, funked-up monster. Both of these exceptional tracks demonstrate exactly why Dave remains such a driving force today, having evolved and matured stylistically over the years, since his early heart-stopping techno outings more than 2 decades ago.

Kicking off the spring ‘18 with an exceptionally crafted release from New York / France collaboration duo Sid Vaga & Herald next up on Martin Eyerer & Rainer Weichhold’s Kling Klong imprint. ‘Be as One EP’ delivers nothing less than three jaw dropping, punchy dance floor pleasers. On the A-side, the title track ‘Be as One’ features vocals by Chicago’s Roy Davis Jr. including a smashing “Body2Body” rendition by Toronto’s hometown hero, Nathan Barato. While the EP closes with ‘Dissident’ orig. mix on the B side that rolls with intricate percussive rhythms, a jaunty bassline sprinkled nicely with dubbed out vocals. – Jay Hill, The Writing Studio NYC

'Celebrating its 2nd anniversary, UK imprint In Tune serves up Remixes Vol.2. It’s
another power EP with three quality remixes, featuring New Jersey legend Junior
Sanchez, Chicago rising star producer Karsten Sollors as well as the label boss
himself, Lex Luca.

Kicking things off, Junior Sanchez delivers a disco licked version of the house heater
‘Fake Flirt’. With its smooth and groovy bassline, the catchy vocal floats off violin
strings and hard-hitting snares that will get you dancing. Ripe for the dance-floor,
and with no holding up, this is high-octane disco gold.

Next up on the EP is label owner Lex Luca, with the second offering in his series of
‘Terrace Mixes’. This re-work of Jack Your Body is a pure late-night heater with a
growling hot bassline. Centred around the moving vocal, Lex builds up tension with
groovy percussion and a swirling yet glitchy synth, layered on top to deadly effect as
the drop kicks in.	

Wrapping up the release is Smartbar resident Karsten Sollors. Delivering a driving
peak-time house thumper, this remix of Feel is laced with an arpeggiated synth to
make any raver&#39;s head roll. Kasten expertly uses the vocal and stabs from the
original, developing with added elements to really make the dancefloor groove &
bounce.
