The smart and charming Berlin based producer Phonique (Michael Vater) returns with his second album!
„Good Idea“ is a twinkling rainbow, teeming with positive vibes and breathing the cosmopolitan creativity of a widely travelled mind.
The common ground of the close to thirty tracks (if you count the bonus CD) is the kind of modernity in Phonique‘s music which doesn‘t deny it‘s roots, but reflects a new, urban feel which has seldom been so successfully displayed.Although „Good Idea“ can be described as modern electronic music in the broadest sense, it‘s difficult to pigeonhole the album as it combines so many influences, ranging from Deep- to Electro-House, from Nu-Disco to HipHop, from Lounge to Minimal and Techno to Pop.
Phonique and his production partner Alex Krüger prove their outstanding versatility without sounding arbitrary. Every tune is well thought out, but still sounds fleet-footed and unbelievably fresh. Handplayed instruments like guitars and pianos fit smoothly in the soundscape adding a good portion of vitality.

The Pop-moments of the album are obvious enough to grab your immediate attention, but subtle enough to grant a longer and repeated listening pleasure that lets you discover more layers and aspects of the music.
Phonique managed to gather an array of illustrious guest musicians, mainly vocalists, around him. The album features the talents of well reputed artists like Erlend Øye (Whitest Boy Alive, Kings Of Convenience), Richard Davis, Ian Whitelaw, Shadee and Rodney Hunter of Aphrodelics, Data MC and Marc Hype as well as top electronic producers like Steve Bug, Gui Boratto, Vincenzo, Zoo Brazil, Badmouth (Mazi & Cass) and fresh talents such as Ruben or Liora.

The collaboration highlights of the album include „Casualities“ (feat. Erlend Øye) which merges uplifting airiness with melancholy in the distinctive Erlend way, the soulful „Worked It Out“ (feat. Ian Whitelaw and Meitz) and the powerful „Computer Kidz“ (feat. Shadee). But the flow of the entire album makes it difficult to pick out just a few tracks.

On the second, bonus CD (limited edition), you‘ll find the more dancefloor-dedicated facet of Phonique‘s creativity in a homogeneous and highly dynamic mix by Phonique. Another twelve all new Phonique tracks fall into place perfectly, ranging from deeper to Electro to more minimal and techy House tracks. The mix reflects the uniquely dynamic of a Phonique DJ set.

„Good Idea“ is definitely a strong musical statement, but not in a loudmouthy way. The album is fresh, inspiring and innovative without claiming to reinvent the wheel. It‘s a masterpiece by a sympathatic Berlin producer to make your summer a little nicer.

Aura Safari & Jimi Tenor's sublime Sensory Blending album yields its first set of remixes on Hell Yeah as Balearic Beat dream team Reverso 68 aka Phil Mison and Pete Herbert serve up two mixes of Your Magic Touch.

Reverso 68 is the studio-based project of Pete Herbert and Phil Mison, and over the last decade-plus, they have mastered the art of making music for swimming pools.

Aura Safari & Jimi Tenor's original vision of 'Your Magic Touch' is a loved-up groove with golden chords and a killer funky bassline buried beneath the lush chords, horns and flute leads. It's perfect sundown music which gets dubbed out by Reverso 68. Their version is more low-slung and deep with a mid-tempo four-four groove sprinkled with tropical percussion. The muted chords are gloriously dreamy and the whole thing is perfect for early evening warm-ups.

Their second Reverso 68 remix is a little more upright and direct but still soundtracks an island escape where the skies are blue and the cocktails are cold. The mending bass soon hooks you in while the chords drift up top to soul-soothing effect.

Summer might be over, but the good times will live on with this superb trio of escapist jams.

'Italian producer Nico Lahs’ Discogs page is impressive to say the least. Not only are there a LOT of releases under a whole host of pseudonyms but we’re talking diverse and coveted labels and a host of credits which show Nicola Loporchio has music flowing through his veins. With tougher-sounding music finding a home on Hot Haus and Royal Oak, his deeper leanings have been picked up by Dan Curtinfor Metamorphic and Sasha for Last Night On Earth, not to mention all his Balearic-inspired Cosmic Garden material. And now we’re proud to add Delusions Of Grandeur to that highly respectable list!
 
‘Got Me Coming Back’ is an EP in the old-school sense. Four tracks which give us four different sides of Nico Lahs, kicking things off with the title track and most club focused pick of the bunch. A punchy, percussive house groove with that touch of MPC swing Nico is known for lays the foundation for a funky bassline and incessant speech sample. Subtle string pads are introduced, adding a touch of widescreen atmospherics without taking away from the rolling vibe, creating one of those secret weapon tracks which will create just the right mood on the dance-floor. ‘Deep Down In My Soul’ melds crunchy live hi-hats, echoing piano chords and dubby analogue keyboard lines into something unique and other-worldly. Once again, the groove is kept rolling and unfussy, Nico working his magic with little touches of colour coming from his synths to compliment the minimal, stripped back arrangement.
 
Flipping over we have ‘Your Sweet Loving’ which drops the BPM a touch for a lowslung, slinky funker of a track which will sound so sweet at the after-hours. Off beat hats, flamming claps and noodling moogy solo might not sound like an instant hit but when you introduce deep stabs and killer bassline it becomes more then the sum of its parts.  Closing out this stunner of an EP we have ‘How’s Life?, that classic B2 kinda track which so often becomes your favourite on the record. Nico takes things in a jazzier direction cutting up fretless bass, fusion guitar lick, Fender Rhodes and filtering ride cymbals leaving us on a high and proving why he’s such a respected and consistent producer.'

"NODEN are house and disco duo Ollie Harvey and Dave O’Leary. In 2020 they brought their own uplifting spin on house and disco with the release of their Skinner EP. As with all their own releases it was crafted to reflect the kind of driving energetic records that fill their DJ sets.

'Cinthie’s we_r house returns with its eleventh release this February, courtesy of Elgo Blanco who delivers four stripped-back house cuts across the EP.

Elgo Valkoinen aka Elgo Blanco is the moniker for a group of producers hailing from Italy and over the past few years the crew have released their twist on contemporary house via Cab Drivers Cabinet Recordings, Nova Grooves and Old Vibes. Here we see them offer up their latest work via Cinthie’s we_r house, a perfect fit for the labels refined and groove-driven house aesthetic.

Leading is ‘Arpo One’ which employs bumpy drums, an amalgamation of intricately woven bass and synth stabs and subtly nuanced atmospherics throughout. ‘Arpo Zero’ follows next, embracing a more percussive led feel with organic drums, chanting vocals and wooden marimba style melodies ebbing and flowing within.

First up on the b-side is ‘Just In Case’, moving things towards a more micro house feel with swinging robust drums, modulating synth whirrs, a soft stab sequence carrying the groove and wandering acid-tinged bass stabs. ‘Ota & Time’ concludes the EP, fusing metallic kalimba melodies with rounded sub bass tones and a low-slung rhythmic drive.'
