Best Of October

Time to welcome the return of Echonomist to TAU, as the prolific Greek producer comes through with a four track selection from his audio lab. Echonomist exudes versatility, with a discography that includes a wide range of styles, demonstrating his ability to explore different genres with confidence and flair. His last appearance on TAU was a collab with the label heads Adana Twins which hit No.1 in the Beatport Indie Dance chart. He’s also recently been releasing with Innervisions, as well as Kompakt. Echonomist has honed his sound, striking a delicate balance between emotion and rhythm, injecting authentic feeling into unadulterated dance floor moments...

The EP kicks off with the title track, ‘Get Closer’, a cut that features a heavy-hitting drum arrangement which sounds organic - like a live drum kit. A minute into the track and a heartwarming melody floats in, Echonomist adding layers of synth to increase the deep feeling. With the hefty beats, it’s a highly effective combination that is sure to rouse dance floors into wild abandon when the clubs open up...

Next up is ‘Pothos’ (featuring Mr. Lookman on the guitar), another cut that merges a live band feel with electronic influences. The extended intro feels like a live on stage jam with guitarists and drummers hyping up the crowd. At just over 2 minutes 30, Echonomist introduces vintage synths, which take us back in time a few decades. As the track progresses, his playful approach produces electrifying moments of tension and release that make this one a special cut indeed.

Then we have two versions of ‘Death Goes To Disco’ (featuring Phunkadelica) to close the EP. The first mix works off a classic disco rhythm, hypnotic, almost narcotic in its spellbinding effect. A gentle build up guides us into the main body of the cut, with a retro style robotic vocal and subtle flourishes of sound to embellish the disco foundation. Giorgio Moroder would be proud.

Lastly, the second version of ‘Death Goes To Disco’ brings us to the end. The ‘Phunkadelica Acid I Love You Mix’ adds a squelchy acid lick to the cut, with high energy drops, booming drums and retaining the dramatic atmosphere of the original. An awesome accompaniment to the original, for those who love a slice of TR-303 (who doesn’t?!).

PREMIERE: EdOne - The Last Chance (Original Mix) [DESSERT]

Established by label boss Elif in September 2023, Barcelona-based record label Marginalia has been making considerable waves on the international circuit over the past few months. Following a run of four hugely successful releases from some of the most talented up-and-coming producers in the industry since its launch, the flourishing imprint now looks to inaugurate the New Year in the same prolific fashion as it concluded the last, as it announces its first release of 2024. Warmly welcoming featuring Turkish artist, Jaffer, and Tel-Aviv based remixer, Accent, this is the ‘Near & Far’ EP.

Crowned Miller SoundClash World Champion back in 2016, DJ, producer and mentor, Jaffer, has since gone on to become founder of INNDROOM – a DJ and music production academy based out of Istanbul. Having dropped a number of well-received releases on ISOLATE and Harabe Black, the rising Turkish talent now lands on Marginalia for the first time with ‘Near & Far’ EP – a three-track package featuring two of his own original productions and an official remix from Israeli artist Accent.

Completing the package is Jaffer’s second and final original production, ‘Floora’. An imposing, mechanic juggernaut replete with frenetic synth work, undulating motifs and complex rhythmic patterns, Jaffers’s nuanced treatment of dissonance and abstract textures converge in perfect accord to conclude yet another extraordinary release on Marginalia.

The first track needs little introduction. Formentera has been a staple tune Lee Burridge’s sets - and has become the most train-spotted tune in Tale and Tone’s history. 'Onur Ozman links up with the celebrated vocalist Lazarusman for a new EP on Comport. It features their standout original It Hurts and comes with a wealth of remixes from the likes of Audio Junkies, Matthias Schuell and Khainz. Version 1 of It Hurts is a dark and complex tune with spangled synths and icy percussion layered over the rolling drums. Version 2 is more freaky and tripped out with the Lazarusman vocals layering in darkness over the top, while the Prelude itself is a vocal interlude that will be great for DJs who like to be adventurous. The Audio Junkies remix is stripped back and deep, with slippery drums and spine tingling synths all getting you into a hypnosis. Matthias Schuell then serves up a much more melodic version with sci-fi keys and far gazing chords that carry you away into another galaxy. Frankey is the alias of Frank Beckers, also known as one half of the Berlin duo Frankey & Sandrino. They have notched up a series of stellar releases on labels such as Kompakt, Innervisions, Diynamic or their own label Sum over Histories - and Frankey now drops a his second release on Poker Flat Recordings - the fantastic Sing-EP. 
Utilising almost two decades of production experience, Sing is a supremely assured track - a thick, infectious groove exhibiting nuanced sound design while fragments of piano lead the subtle melodic development. It’s got class written all over it. 
Satellite is cut from the same cloth - Frankey’s attention to detail particularly in the mix makes for a dancefloor track that is both laser sharp and deeply affecting - the drums knock while the chords and effects take the track into space.

Produced right after the start of the pandemic in March. Probably the nastiest track I've ever done in my life (for a reason).
I don't think I could ever top the tension level of this one. It's really like that. Tracks speak of memories. And this one is pure rage.

"It starts slowly, it speeds up a little. It comes to the point that it first scratches your heart and then the stomach. And then goes up, and up, and up, and up, and up. And you want more of it, more and again more, to the point that, you know, it will never be enough."

Italian duo Armonica has been a project we've discovered a long time ago, so working with the full release with guys is our pleasure and honour.
Their significant productions with Connected Frontline, Stil Vor Talent and Multinotes, as well as the recent remix, done with MoBlack for the legend of afro-beat Fela Kuti, released with Defected, have become the main reasons to love guys' sound.
The main title 'Slave' is powerful and effective banger edging between the melodic influence of laidback Indie Dance vibes and the acid sounds.
We are happy to have Dutch producer Patrice Baumel taking his hands on the remix of 'Slave': going more underground with powerful low-ends work, catchy melodies and the enveloping breakdown, Patrice's version is the undoubted proper floor-worker.
The third 'Ratio' has a profound ground: major synth spots and the melodic elements are unified into the properly performed track.
Enjoy any of the tracks from the release, either all of them; the second will make us happier.
