➤ About:
We welcome dance music veteran Quenum to the Balance Music stable. The Cadenza Records co-founder is no stranger to the global scene. His releases on labels from Rebellion to Soma have cast deep spells globally for over 30 years now. He delivers a four-track EP on this Balance debut that feels minimal in aesthetic but maximal in expression.  If you find yourself lost in a groove, you’re probably listening to ‘Batman Wake Up’. Highlighted by warm bass which rumbles and rolls, the dripping percussion gallops at a steady pace. A distant synth rises like a wave, and with it, uplifts the listener into a controlled euphoria.     With a peculiar rising bass, there is a feeling of hypnosis that permeates ‘Briggs Street’. It would feel like a transmission from a different dimension if it weren’t for the almost languorous vocal, anchoring you in the present. This is one for the serious heads.  
‘Small Brain’ features an inviting jungle stomp that draws you in before a deep, blubbering bass catches you in its thick web. It forges into a breakdown thick with intensity and high on mystery. Approach with caution; on a massive sound system, this will cause a stampede of curious punters to the DJ box asking for the track ID. 
  On ‘Step by Step’, the pressure is released a tad. Random vocal statements float on top of a fantastic house rhythm. The beautiful discordant stabs, a throbbing bassline, and a direct house beat all merge to make this the most accessible cut on the EP.

Fully charged like most of Quenum’s rich, chugging techno output, Express Yourself is a late night, eyes closed, full body journey through piano, percussion and pounding bass – woven with his occasional trademark chord stab and random vocal snippet to keep you on your toes. At 120 BPM, the track sits at ease on both the dancefloor and the long mix. This is a corker of a first new tune from Pacific after 20 years radio silence.

South African producer @sebeedj steps up to Kindisch with two new tracks, one of which comes in collaboration with fellow countryman Yanga Grenade. 

Sebee aka Sebastian de Beer is a 22-year-old with a fully formed sound that has come on labels like Get Physical Music with Bruce Loko, Diynamic, and Anjunadeep. He brings neo-classical style to his house music as well as influences from his local scene in South Africa. He frequently teams up with childhood friend Tye who performs vocals on his tracks and his piano skills lend all his work an organic feel whether working solo or as part of Ad Harmonium with Felt Habit. 

Opener 'Undulations' is a moody house roller with pensive chords gently riding up and down. A sense of spiritualism comes from the bell sounds and melodic bass as this most warm and cuddly late-night groove unfolds in an emotive fashion. 

Yanga Grenade is a producer, DJ, vocalist and songwriter who works with Sebee on 'Keeping Count.' It's a spine-tinglingly deep track with delicate spoken word vocals and nebulous melodies drifting about the mix. The soft bass and heartfelt chords are a perfect compliment to make this another masterfully emotional late-night track. 

These are two perfect examples of South Africa's most musical house sounds.
