the fourth release on denis horvat's vokabularium brings you the fresh sounds of none other than auggië. having had multiple releases and remixes on the likes of innervisions, borders of light, sum over histories, auggië brings us 3 new tracks weaving together groove and emotion. the ep will also feature a remix from horvat himself. expect to hear these making the rounds this year.

'Australian house and techno pioneers Unknown Associates land on their label with a new single that features remixes from fellow underground mainstays Denney and Jacqui Cunningham.

Unknown have spent a decade fomenting their own scene in Wollongong, having thrown more than 300 raves to date. They were the first crew to throw a weekly techno party - Institute Of Dance ran for five years - and they have hosted a who's who of top names from Denis Sulta & Jayda G to DJ Boring and Patrick Topping. Unknown Records is another feather to their bow and it's dropped fresh music from the likes of Kolombo, former Infusion man Francis Xavier and many more.
The excellent 'Handle It' is a twitchy bit of backroom techno. The rumbling drums sweep you up while the pulsing synths bring a sense of paranoia. There is subtle funk in the groove, with fleshy chords and steamy vocals bringing both a sense of sweat and seduction. It's a full flavour cut destined to stand out in any set.

Denney is the first to remix and is a UK talent synonymous with no-frills, high-class house sounds on a range of labels from Hot Creations to Moon Harbour. He brings his own unique flavours with a more textured and raw rework. His drums hit with a tech house edge as the slapping hits and taught synth stabs get dancers on their toes.

Jacqui Cunningham supplies a second remix and is the owner of Sydney’s GiRLTHING, which celebrates queer culture with epic pride parties amongst many other community-minded events. Her music fuses luscious arrangements of disco to pure house rhythms, one of Sydney’s most notable players. Her remix is eight minutes of classy dance floor pressure that twists and turns endlessly on lithe synths and hooky melodic sounds. It's loose yet driving and erupts later on with a darker energy that will take any dance floor up a level.

Luke Garcia - Eternal Dawn

Our Ukrainian brother AIKON returns for a four-track excursion into the future of the past (or is it the past of the future?). Embodying the time- less ethos of TAU’s core sound, this EP is a surefire winner. AIKON has been a busy bee lately, with releases on Diynamic, Renaissance, Exploit- ed and Multinotes, among others. It’s great to have him back with us here at TAU, we’re sure you’re going to bop your head to this all through summer and beyond...

The EP gets grooving with its title track, ‘Energy Control’. At the low end there’s a gentle hum, nudged along by punchy beats. Acid flecks reverberate in the background, while a repetitive vocal clip gives the cut its enchanting character. Get ready for the extended breakdown, leading into a bombastic second half with a highly emotive riff designed to give you goosebumps.

Up next is ‘Come Together’, which utilizes organic sounding percussion alongside a muted b-line. The vocal tells us “It’s time to come together” repeatedly, as if urging us to embrace unity... Layers of urgent melody are added, giving the track a dramatic quality. AIKON allows us some time for a breather, before heading into the latter part of the track for more strutting on the dance floor.

‘Rattles’ follows up, opening with a deep bass rhythm. The atmosphere is tense and a little unsettling, with layers of percussion adding to the track’s dynamic nature. An emotionally-charged breakdown showcases AIKON’s musicality, before we dive back into the depths of the low end.

Lastly, ‘Space Adventure’ takes us on a cosmic head trip. After a pensive start, we encounter a funkafied bassline which is complemented by a bright sparkling melody, which evokes the feeling of a shuttle docking with a space station while orbiting a distant planet. The progression and sonic narrative on this cut are perfectly matched with the title, AIKON guiding us through space with his impeccable composition...

AIKON returns to Exploited with an EP of dark moods and sensual melody.

The title track is a dark slice of Italo disco / electro, with taut snares cutting through the droning bass and hypnotic synth arpeggiation. Building imperceptibly through subtle atmospheric touches, the track reaches a spine-tingling peak in the spacious breakdown, where synths soar and the acidic bass gets a moment in the spotlight. A voice breathes the word ‘acid’ as the beat kicks back into life, completing the tripped out feel of this moody chugger.

‘Galaxy’ is driven along by a hefty bassline throb, soon bolstered by monotone acid tones and infectious cowbell rhythm. Blasts of synths tease as we head towards the heavenly breakdown, where beautiful sampled guitar melody rubs up against floaty, ambient pad sounds. The contrast between the guitar and the moody bass sounds when the beat drops back in is magical, channeling some of that ‘90s dreamhouse energy as gated, shimmering chords add another sumptuous motif.

‘Heroes’ is a little more on the melodic techno tip but keeps the textures and themes of the EP running through it. Moving at a languid tempo, the track focuses around a simple, blissed-out, ecstasy-imbued hook and a chugging bass rhythm. The switch from a 4/4 thump to a breakbeat rhythm halfway through shifts the mood brilliantly, and throughout subtle changes eke out more beauty from this heads-down affair.
