'Debuting on Fluid Funk with a lush and lax voyage dreamy coastal scapes, Dutch artist with Japanese / American heritage Uzu Moon dishes out feel-good, Cali-funk-informed vibes by the dozen over the course of four delectably smooth tracks, infused with elements of LA beat, soulful house and post-balearic elevation - including a rework from Cody Currie. 

A bespoke late-summer joint to bump out loud in your open-top, “Asa” gets the ball rolling slo-mo style, brittle piano stabs chiming alongside mangled rap samples, playful acid spurts and a languid jazzy shuffle to drive it all. Funky synth hooks blazing, “Sunder, Love” lets off washed-out RnB vibrations over beds of 303-emulating squelch, topped off with a guitar solo a la Santana like you’re chilling out in Venice Beach. 

“When I Get Home, I’ll Know It’s Over” then heads for the opposite side of the Pacific with its koto-esque resonances, soft tapping drums and rugged acid loops weaving a melancholia-laced, loungey narrative for the dance floor and not. “Sunder, Love” as reshaped by Shall Not Fade affiliate Cody Currie revs things up two notches further, turning the original into a doped-up chugger, primed for sustained hustlin’ n bustlin’ in the ballroom with its convulsive congas and vaporous melody fluttering like a groovy butterfly. '

Get Physical Music family members Karol XVII & MB Valence unveil their stunning new album, ‘Essay’, in February 2022. Following well-received teaser singles, the full album is a storytelling trip through many shades of heartfelt house.

Polish pair Karol XVII & MB Valence have been a key part of the global dance scene for more than a decade. In that time, they have established their own Loco Records, been nominated as Best Deep House Artists at the Beatport Music Awards and have continued to push the genre forwards. Drawing on their backgrounds as composers and sound engineers, the duo has put out plenty of singles on Get Physical and contributed to 2020's 'Retrospective,' but ‘Essay’ is their boldest artistic statement to date.

The lovely atmosphere of 'Old Memories' opens the album with dreamy ambience and soothing breakbeats before 'Aqua' sinks you into a vast and pillowy deep house groove. It's a gorgeous track detailed with delicate synths. The lead single 'Whispers' is another stylish and seductive track featuring Johannesburg native and vocalist Lazarusman, before Jono McCleery features on 'Fool's Gold,' a richly melodic and harmonic lullaby with vulnerable vocals.

Real late night tension defines 'Echoes & The Beauty' (Jackspeare Interpretation) with its frazzled synths and mysterious rolling beats, while 'Disharmony' is characterised by uneasy, unsettling synth motifs that loop over more cavernous deep house drums. The fascinating album continues through the absorbing dub house and delicate pads of 'Waterfall Drops.' Another Jackspeare Interpretation, this time of 'Sonus,' makes for perfectly meditative and melancholic listening, and 'Bang Bang' then layers soft shakers over big rubbery kicks while a sensuous vocal hangs in the air. The stunning 'Jackspeare Theme' is nearly four minutes of suspensory cosmic ambiance and the album then plays out with the organic broken beats of 'Digisong,' electro-tinged future soul of 'Universum' (Jackspeare Original Interpretation), and pensive synth craft of sublime closer 'Humanity.'

‘Essay’ is the sumptuous sound of two producers at their very best.

Shayde, the Offenbach-based super boy-band, is back on Connaisseur and steals you away, straight into analogue heaven with their newest two track single.

"Trust Issues“ is a slow grumbler, dominated by a deep and vibrating bassline which automatically makes you pull up your top lip Billy Idol-style (the older ones will remember). At some point a demanding acid line joins the track, making the dirtiness perfect.

"Peace In Metropolis“ instead is a beautiful and timeless deep-house pearl. A tune which would have also fit nicely on Playhouse or Dial in the past. This one is for the early morning, perfect for dreaming away.

'Does anything ever stays the same? Everything changes, even when it's not in motion. 

Nevertheless, Maximoto from Utrecht puts our minds in motion with his philosophically titled EP To Remain The Same. The debut single is released on OOSSHA, our sister sublabel. 

On To Remain The Same you can hear Utrecht based dj, producer and nightlife entrepreneur Maximoto is inspired by Italian disco, New York house and European new wave from the eighties. Just wait when the moody melodies kick in on mid tempo opener One Touch and you are in balearic heaven, with the perfect sunset just beyond the horizon. 

Title track To Remain The Same is equally laid back, with a stunning bass synthesizer taking front stage, waiting for a delightful acid line to take over. Lauer displays his love for Depeche Mode with an ace remix. He turns One Touch into a sparkling disco groover that clearly pays tribute to Behind The Wheel, a big hit in the ninetees. 

Closer Asking You To Wait is another play with words. Blissful beauty in slow motion. Imagine Saint Etienne in their best years, remixed by Andrew Weatherall. That kinda vibe. 

Pretty essential, if you ask us. '

'Ever since he remixed Abimaro & The Free’s ‘Mark’ back in 2014, NuNorthern Soul boss Phil Cooper has kept in touch with Daniel Stenger, the producer and self-taught multi-instrumentalist behind the Flashbaxx project. Cooper was always convinced that Sanger would be capable of crafting a very special release for the label but was willing to give him time to come up with something special.

With Take Care My Friend, a mini-album inspired by the German producer’s deeply rooted love of jazz-funk, Stenger has repaid the faith shown in him. He’s delivered a collection of quality cuts marked out by audible warmth, effortless musicality and memorable, sun-soaked songs.

We’re biased of course, but there’s no denying that Stenger’s creative choices have resulted in a superb set of tracks. While the restricted kit list provided focus during the music-making process, there’s still plenty of musical variety across the six tracks that make up the set. 

For proof, check the slow-motion soul brilliance of ‘Strangers’, where Kathryn Kempf’s evocative and poignant lead vocals rise above a sumptuous downtempo groove and heart-aching piano lines.

And we thrown in an ever impressive Atjazz remix. Fans will recognise that the Atjazz sound is very personal and that he puts a part of himself into every track he writes or remixes.'
