We welcome back one of our own hometown heroes, Jonathan Kaspar. Through holding down a residency at the fabled Gewölbe club, to releases on Pets Recordings, Objektivity, Ouïe and our own KX imprint, Jonathan Kaspar has proved to be one of the most exceptionally gifted producers and DJ’s to emerge from Cologne in recent time.

Though the clubs have remained closed since he came to us with his Kompakt debut “Kante”, his inspiration clearly remains unwavered with “Muster EP”. An acid tinged groove throbs to incredible momentum on the title track “Muster”. Follow the heartbeat with “Alle” as Jonathan brings the electro funk forward with his first foray into using his own vocals. A French touched rumble bass gives “Beton” all the flow and more for those early hour moments we all are craving again. The closer “Heber” is a classic opener – a subtle percussion rhythm gets built around sky high synths and a sweet house high hat to warm up any night.

“Let it Burn” is the first single taken from music-savvy AFFKT’s upcoming new “The Big Picture” studio album set to be released later this summer via Mobilee. For this first advance, AFFKT joins forces and creativity once again with Sutja Gutierrez (The Fruhstucks band) as a vocal guest. 

New AFFKT’s album will bring together all the best feelings and elements of the Spanish producer creativity into one cohesive release. New concepts and styles to deliver everyone some of the energy that needs to be released after a forced pause. ‘The Big Picture’ will be probably his most expansive and multifaceted electronic-driven album to date.

And, to show something, here is “Let it Burn” where the Spanish music-producer melts with efficiency edgy-techno, indie dance and new wave sounds. The track leads the listener directly into the sonic universe and experience the album is. New concepts and styles to deliver everyone some of the energy that needs to be released after a forced pause. 

“'Let it burn' is one of the first songs that came out of the new album so it is carefully and slow-simmered cooked, a composition where I tried to create a balance of styles and stay halfway through Indie and Eletroclash, music genres that influenced me a lot when I started making music in the mid / late 90s” AFFKT attests. “Personally, I feel it as one of the most complete songs I ever did along my good friend and favourite vocalist Sutja Gutiérrez; it is a direct song which seeks simplicity and perfect forms. His Lyrics fit perfectly fine with the album concept, they are somewhere between light and dark, but definitely optimistic.” 

Last but not least, “Let it Burn” EP includes a remix of the single by Santiago Garcia as well as a dub version.

First Listen: Dominik Marz - Closer Than Most

Welcoming Ukrainian artist The Organism to the TAU family with this delightful EP. Roman Yarmolenko began his career back in 1999 as DJ Alfred, and made quite a name for himself. But he made a conscious shift into the underground in 2013, finding more satisfaction and joy in producing music that didn’t fit into mainstream ideals. Over the years since he has established himself as a formidable producer, landing releases with labels such as Diynamic and Disco Halal. Now he’s joining the TAU squad for his debut EP Ups And Downs after testing the waters a while ago on the label’s Spektrum 2 VA...

The title track gets this EP off to a glorious start, demonstrating The Organism’s ability to craft tension-building dance floor bombs. Fueled by a guitar-esque riff, the track grows from rather sombre beginnings to a crescendo led by a catchy, yet indecipherable vocal sample. At this peak, he creates a scintillating breakdown, which takes us into the latter part of the track which continues the funky rhythmic dance up until the very end.

Next tracks is the aptly-titled ‘Conquistador’, which begins with a whirring low end guiding us into more low frequency oscillations and a macabre atmosphere. Slowly more unusual sounds and effects are added, though it remains minimal in its architecture until we hit the first breakdown. After which point, the energy increases with additional percussive elements creating a sense of urgency. Another breakdown heralds the final segment, with vocal clips utilised as instrumental layers and the hypnotic rhythm keeping you locked throughout.

Lastly, ‘Cowboy’ keeps things on the dark side. The Organism’s ability to craft stirring atmospheres is evident from the start, his deft touch gently builds this one into a vibrant workout. A huge breakdown really sets this track off, and we’re sent flying into the second part of the track full of excitement.

After releasing Mathias Winnfield's Enthalpy EP, Soulfooled follows up with the next bunch of stunning peak time weapons by rising DJs Surfface, who have recently released on Damon Jee's ,Dust & Blood' and JEAHMON!
The EP is opened with "Nova Astra". Sounds of the OB6 and Prophet 10 Synthesizer guide the heme, which was inspired by the futuristic sound of "Blade Runner.
During the time of pandemic, when not much was happening in the club industry, Surface still looked optimistic into the future. With that in mind, keeping their productivity high. „Innerstellar“ was written in the same moment. Dark trombones, uprising synth lines and driving beats, make this tune an absolute peak time weapon.
The EP is closed with „Polaris". A track that comes along a bit more euphoric and emotional than the other tracks from this EP. Kind of like when the sun rises through the windows after a long night in a dark club. Modern Indie Dance at it's best!

Iconic French electronic artist Kiko returns to Watergate Records and brings a legend along for the ride as The Hacker makes his label debut.
 
We got our first taste of Kiko on the Oberbaumbrücke imprint when he teamed with another lofty French artist POPOF to craft the supreme ‘Night Sky’ EP released last May. 
 
Kiko sonic passions span techno, electro and Italo Disco, all of which bleed into one another on his latest ‘Data Entry’ EP. The title track is a melting pot of chugging basslines, crushing percussion, an attitude-packed vocal and slick melody line. The Hacker, who Kiko sees as his “brother, mentor and family”, blesses the release with a re-rub of the title track, teasing out the robotic elements to craft a remix that’s both full-bodied, yet ice-cool. 
 
Kiko then reinforces his love of collaborations, teaming with Lucye, considered one of the most exciting artists of the new generation in France. Initially meeting at a local bar in their hometown of Grenoble, they bonded over their shared love of Italo Disco and continue this celebration with the exuberant jam, ‘Orange Fizz’.
