Ruis. returns with its fourth digital release, introducing Brussels-based artist SKIMIR, a dedicated crate digger, soundsystem lover and bass music designer from the HNI Soundsystem crew.

With Grabuge EP (JSD004), SKIMIR channels his background in heavy sound system culture into a dark, underground club statement. The EP draws from the raw energy of early dubstep while pushing it into a more contemporary, layered direction. Grabuge is where heavyweight basslines, carefully placed drums and sample-rich textures collide.

Butternut Squash

Black and white tones remind me of minimalistic, powerful rhythms and vibrations that move through the body.

When I made the tracks and painted the artwork, I trusted my intuition. In my mind, I saw angular, square shapes that, in combination with strong contrasts, created an image of vibration. Something hypnotic and deeply resonant. 

I wanted to fuse deep bass atmospheres and the relentless momentum of techno. Creative, percussive and unmistakably dubby. Raw and distinctive soundscapes that wake you up and pull you in, with a vibe that’s full of energy yet never loses its punch. Every element is finely tuned to maintain that mystical, percussive groove: hypnotic, dubbed-out momentum.   

I've closed the EP with a cinematic outro that I hope conveys a deep an lingering intensity. Textures in slow motion puling you inward, shaping in your mind as you slowly dissolve into meditation.

MUADEEP has also honored me with a fresh and genre-bending jersey-perspective in his remix.

Grid Vibe

A decade ago, @midnighttraffic and @qilla first met. Since then, an arc of psychedelic fusion with a subtle techno undercurrent has been honed from both sides. Today, Midnight traffic returns to the Indian label with a 4-track release including remixes by Audrey Danza, Aerae, Andy Garvey, and Zara.

it was a pleasure to open the space for this event and create the joruning from nothing into something by traveling through the realms of ambient, dub-techno, breaks and dubstep, all with the seaoning of hypnotic.
