steam writes cursive in a fennel-mint musk.
Leaf constellations, ragged, minor,
eddies of future in a cup made finer.

rind-colored letters in the tannin glisten.
Orbit my thumb on the rim like a ring,
timeline strings sing, sing, sing.

Teacup oracle, what do you dare?
Only what mercy allows me to share.
Can you know what I know?
I can echo your now; I can’t borrow your tomorrow.

Herringbone currents, a shoreline of leaves,
bay-shaped harbors and swallowtail eaves.
Wolf in a wavetop, bell in a hill,
boat made of maybe and weathered will.
North is a notch on the china’s lip,
south is the saucer’s tideless ship.
I read what is present, not promise or threat,
the darker it gathers, the softer it lets.

Teacup oracle, say it slant, say it small,
Names of the near things, that’s all.

Seed-speck swirls in a figure-of-eight,
luck makes a ladder, love makes a gate.
