I don't know what to say about this one. Nothing inspired it, other than there being a concert that needed some new music and it was included in a concert together with Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini and the Brahms Requiem. The audience got their money's worth that night. It's in two sections and is scored for Symphony Orchestra. There's a big timpani part and it has a huge dynamic range. It is harmonically more challenging than my other works but at it root it is tonal. Now I think of it, I imagined it to be expanded into a larger work. There is certainly enough material. Who knows, maybe one day.
