Felt good to return with another stacked show full of forgotten music that I think you should rediscover or learn of. I have to say that since i've started my show on Rinse, it has been the toughest 4 weeks as far as preparing and performing the show. It's all part of the legacy though. I have never had to dig this hard in my life! I really kept this show smooth and highlighted a lot of neo-soul and melodic tracks. No matter how advanced or "future" the music keeps getting, I can't help but go back to my roots. We are still fighting a never ending battle against the majors which is why we have to dig harder but at the end of it all it will all be alright.

UPDATE: The winners of the DJ Shadow remix contest have been announced! I'm not one of them, but it was great to hear the ones that shadow picked. So glad Archive's Waltz version was in the ranks, played that on my KCRW show on Wednesday. I'm not bummed one bit, everyone who Shadow picked killed it in their own way, and since I only set out to make what I consider to be a beautiful song... I feel successful in that. My KCRW radio show is every Wednesday night 12-3am, so for the past 5 years I've never been able to go to Low End Theory. Gaslamp Will and I said enough is enough, and planned it so I can take the night off and rock w/ some old friends that I never get to play with, and feel the energy of Low End Theory.

...I was super hyped that some other friends, Mark de Clive-Lowe and Jonti were both gonna be performing as well, and THEN, once I got there I heard word that JAMES BLAKE was yet another special unannounced guest. Damn I'm a master at being in the right place at the right time.

So obviously this is a distorted recording and I was pushing the system hard since I didn't often go full buggout like this back in those days, but if ever a crunchy recording would work, it's one of crunchy tunes like these.

They were rungs on the ladder of her ever-climbing journey. You can hear in each recording a completely pure reflection of how she was feeling - passionate, strong, devoted, frisky, suspicious, proud, or just downright tired.

THIS FRIDAY NIGHT, JULY 5TH 2013, Los Angeles gathers for a sure-to-be-epic evening of free music and revelry around this particularly authentic high priestess.
