Marco from Naviar Records couldn't find any information about a haiku poet whose pen name was Senjo. He came across this poem in The Penguin Book of Haiku, but there's no mention of his/her life or other works. However, he liked it so much that he decided to share it anyway and hopes you'll find it inspiring, too.

If anyone else has more information on this mysterious haiku poet, please get in touch with Naviar Records and they'll update the description.

With the exception of the gongs, a combination of a modified Dreamsynth bell preset and Gong Amp, everything was made with one monster virtual modular patch using VCV Rack (Mostly Surge XT modules). 

Probably not the best way to do it, I should have learned from how easy it was splitting things last week, but everything including the gongs was multi-track recorded as a single live performance. Apart from pushing my far from shabby CPU to it's limit I wasn't able to modulate as many things as I'd have liked, ran into the not enough physical knobs/sliders limit.  ,

Mount Asama
amidst its fumes and ash

The event Bosun refers to is the eruption of Mount Asama in 1783, which instantly killed over 1,000 people. The toxic ash traveled 100 miles to Edo, making farmland useless and causing many more people to starve.

One of the four great haiku masters, Yosa Buson studied both Japanese and Chinese poetry. He was also an accomplished painter, and most of his poems were accompanied by paintings, resulting in a more diverse and individual set of works than the one by his main historical influence, Basho.

I decided on the instruments, Decent Sampler (Drops Longs *2, Strands Ensemble & Strands Harmonic Solo) and also did a little mixing.
Piano Motifs did all the hard work.
Best listened to on good headphones 🎧 or speakers 🔊else some of the deeper bass may be lost ☹️

In some words:
Composer, arranger, producer, multi-instrumentalist. Born in Argentina,
I studied music in Buenos Aires, New York, Boston, Los Angeles and Paris.

For 20 years, I developed an important career as a session and backing musician in Argentina and Europe, playing, among other instruments, the bass, touring and recording with many jazz, rock, fusion, world, Latin and tango bands.

At the same time, I worked as an arranger, producer and musical director with many projects and artists in the USA, Argentina and Europe.

From 1992 to 1997, I performed my compositions live with my own band in Buenos Aires and began a solo recording career with the worldwide release of my first album "The Years Alone" on the North American label Green Linnet/Xenophile. On this album I arranged and performed 11 of my songs written between 1986 and 1993. I played most of the instruments, but included guest appearances by some great South American players.

My recording career continued with "Segundo Ciclo" (1997), released worldwide by Timeless Records, and 12 more albums released between 2000 and 2016.

Currently, I work as an on-demand film/TV composer while continuing to play live and produce.

Naviar is a music community and label. Through regular publications, open projects and events, we explore the connection between experimental music and traditional Japanese poetry.
