﻿DJ Shock Africa est une véritable matriarche parmi les DJ kenyans. Co-fondatrice de l'Association des DJs d'Afrique de l'Est, elle a fait ses débuts auprès de Homeboyz DJ Academy, a perfectionné sa technique avec Santuri Electronic Music Academy, reputee pour ses formations innovantes et à la pointe des tendances électro... mais au-delà de tout ça, c'est une selecta hors pair, qui évolue entre les genres musicaux avec aisance et qui sait emmener son public vers plus de kiff et plus de découverte. La base. Elle a aussi été la mentor de nombre de DJs est-africain... une référence de Nairobi à Kampala, et bien au-delà. Go go mama Shock Africa.

ELECTRAFRIQUE invite DJ SHOCK AFRICA - 13 Avril 2025

Last October we landed in Addis Ababa for our tenth Broadcast Lab commission, courtesy of Ethiopian Records featuring performances from Ethiopian Records, Nerliv, Dotphic, Azmari Synthesis, Negarit Band and ‪DJ Jazzy Dave‬

In Lagos slang, "mara" means "crazy, wild", and "cruise" means "fun, a good time".  

The loosely defined but at the same time distinct fresh style of music known as “Cruise Beat” or “Free Beat” began to spread from Lagos on TikTok and other social media in Nigeria around 3 or 4 years ago.  

A kind of “Anti-Afrobeats”, Cruisebeat is largely a reaction against the by now ubiquitous and internationally popularised sound of Naija Pop with its slower tempos and languid, introspective, romantic themes reminiscent of Zouk/Kizomba.  In sharp contrast, the younger generation is making music at much higher tempos, with cocophonous use of samples and an irreverent, rebellious, riotous modus operandi.  

Cruisebeat is the new Punk.
