December is a special time of year for most of the world. As children we look forward to it with eager anticipation of all of the shiny new toys and presets we will get this season.  As adults our priorities hopefully shift some and we worry more about the gift of giving than the act of receiving.  We imagine making friends and loved-ones, new ones as well as old, happy in some small way. We envision participating with them in their life for a moment or two and sharing some form of intimacy.  We celebrate the opportunity to give love with the intention of building lasting relationships, and if we are wise enough, we let go of expectations of immediate reciprocation and realize the act of giving is itself its own reward...

"Autumn Rains" is the second installment in a trio of neoclassical solo piano albums composed, performed, and produced by Andrew Souter. These projects have been two decades in the making and represent a return to traditional music composition, engaging song-writing, and the pure passion of emotional story-telling. This trio represents Andrew's most personal and intimate music. It is quite literally a love project. We hope it may help you on your journey, as it has us...

"Autumn Rains" is music inspired by the spirit of Agape. It is an album dedicated to the concept of spiritual love and universal compassion clothed in the metaphor of transcendental natural beauty. It is an album that simultaneously expresses deep love for both the creator as well as the creation. It is said God gave us music so that we could pray without words. It could be added that nature was provided as an example of exactly how to do this effectively. In this spirit, Autumn Rains is a prayer of gratitude for the opportunity to learn from the natural beauty of this world, and an expression of a sense of respect for the inescapable universal equality that nature imposes. It humbly attempts to capture deep feelings of awe, granduer, idealism, and a belief in the innate goodness of the world even when we all face exceptionally hard lessons.

Steinway artist, Chad Lawson, decided Chopin needed a new introduction.  Along with violinist Judy Kang (Lady Gaga, Ryuichi Sakamoto) and cellist Rubin Kodheli (Kanye West, Norah Jones), Lawson has arranged ten Chopin works into a minimalist landscape.

It's a risk editing the "poet of the piano" but one that Chopin would be proud of.  

Taking 10 Chopin works, Lawson decided to scale the works down to a minimalist setting.  "I knew even if bare-bones, Chopin's works could still be as spellbinding as the original compositions we are so familiar with." says the pianist.

When it comes to famous jazz tunes, nothing beats Miles Davis' All Blues.  This classic originally appeared in the seminal 1959 Kind of Blue album, featuring both John Coltrane and Cannonball Adderly.  So for this recording, we are featuring two exceptional pro sax players - Matt Criscuolo http://mattcriscuolo.com on alto and Santi-Caballero Mendez https://soundcloud.com/santi-caballero on tenor.  Matt, who's been a friend of mine for over 20 years, opens things up with his gorgeous alto playing, while Santi-Caballero, one of SoundCloud's finest horn and flute players finishes things up with his big tenor sound and great playing. New England Conservatory pianist Hongge Du performs Scriabin: Sonata for Piano no 2 in G sharp minor, Op. 19 "Sonata fantasy”. Recorded live in Jordan Hall, January 29, 2015.

2015 marked the 100th anniversary of the death of composer Alexander Scriabin (1872-1915). Scriabin's music is heard today primarily at the keyboard - his ten piano sonatas and hundreds of preludes, etudes, and "poems," many of them bearing titles, are numerically the bulk of his output.

Because of the size of this body of work, it closely tracks the evolution of a musical language. Scriabin's earliest works display Chopin's influence in their romantic melodies. Late works anticipate the twelve-tone revolution soon to come - but with a basis in mysticism rather than mathematics.

In the concert this recording came from, NEC piano students performed all ten of the sonatas. The listener was taken on a speedy trip through the evolving sound of piano music in the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as the personal journey of a romantic visionary.

I'm a composer with over 20 years of experience in film, TV, and commercial music.

My latest feature film score is currently in US cinemas. Additionally, I have composed for numerous BBC documentaries, including The Natural World and Silent Witness, as well as major commercial campaigns for fashion brands and airlines.

Beyond screen work, I am also a neo-classical artist with a strong streaming audience, which has led to further scoring opportunities, such as the soundtrack for What They Had with Hilary Swank and Michael Shannon.
