The original song/game was nearly all composed using a rack of dedicated hardware samplers and synthesizers (Including most notably an E-mu E-Synth/Audity 2000, Roland JP-2080/8080, General Music S2R, Memorymoog, etc) which were all routed through a MOTU Midi interface and sequenced in Digital Performer/Mac.  Ironically, is this version, which has all of the same elements and more, was composed and arranged on a single laptop using only 3 software instruments: Kontakt 5, Play 64, and Stylus RMX collectively driving a total of about 24 individual MIDI tracks. Although I’m still an advocate of using a mixture of hardware/software instrumentation, it’s obvious that with fewer details to keep in check, the whole workflow and pipeline becomes much more efficient.

Libraries owned/used on this song: Spectrasonics - Stylus Expanded/Symphony of Voices, *Peter Siedlaczek's Advanced Orchestra, East West - Symphonic Orchestra /Ministry of Rock. Like the D2 title redux, this version was composed entirely in my living room using an Akai LPK 25 MIDI controller on a Dell XPS 17 laptop running Sonar X1B Expanded in Windows 7 Professional 64.

How I wish Freespace III would become reality...

Grew up playing this game, one of the favorite things about this was the music. In my 30's now, I still enjoy the music. Thank you for creating these masterpieces. :) Wish I had a CD of all the music.
