Composer and multi-instrumentalist based in The New Forest, UK

Grammy-nominated Canadian songwriter, artist and producer Laura Roy blends her love for classic 70’s folk and 90’s r&b vocals to create a unique soulful sound. After multiple artist releases and collaborations, Laura earned “Best R&B Soul Recording of the Year” at the 2020 East Coast Music Awards in Canada. Her follow up EP titled “Tides” highlighted her experiences growing up in rural Nova Scotia and featured writing collaborations with Grammy nominated UK artists Lianne La Havas and Geo Jordan. Laura is currently based in London, UK where she works as a songwriter, vocalist, producer and continues to develop and release her artist projects and collaborations. Laura has worked for pop heavy hitters, Camila Cabello, Anne Marie, Mae Muller and most recently gained Grammy recognition for her contributions as a songwriter on Doja Cat’s 2021 “Planet Her” album.

I have been writing music for most of my life. From composing on a C64 as a kid to playing in indie, rock and rave bands in my teens and early twenties, through to writing music for documentaries and working on individual projects.
  I love interesting, aesthetic music. Good music is good music - regardless of genres, styles and production techniques.
  I'm influenced by many artists (too many to mention here) however, the physical universe is my true inspiration. You only have to listen to the world around you! Sound, for me, is as inspiring as the music itself.

The tracks and playlists here are a scrapbook of tracks recorded  over time in various locations, including  the Angel Studios, Islington, my kitchen in north London,  a bathroom in Brixton,  random places in Cornwall and at the Conservatorio di Musica in Venice.
I am particularly fond of my remote collaborations with my cousin Rick Williams  who composes/arranges settings of poetry by Cornish poet, Charles Causley, as well as our remote harmonising during lockdown of "Calm is the Sea" which still brings a tear to the eye.

I am always keen to collaborate with musicians and singers on projects that are interesting and fun.
