Crackling with energy, its pendulous drums reminiscent of The Chemical Brothers in their Battle Weapon mode, Amber Rush’ matches the thunderdome ready scope of a big-room anthem with waves of psychedelic texture. The result is guaranteed rapid-fire synapse tickling within even the best (or worst) adjusted of dedicated rave brains.

Avery’s metallic-tinted reimagining subtly shifts the aesthetic of ‘Amber Rush’, gliding out of the strobe and into the fog. Wisely following the course of undulating euphoria mapped out by James, Avery transforms acid tension into graceful heights and somehow deeper plunges, ultimately settling on a killer groove.

Few producers can handle a synthesizer quite as masterfully as Alessandro Cortini.

The Italian musician has been building up a reputation for a few years now, under a plethora of different monikers, pushing his electronic instruments to near-breaking point. Cortini mastered the towering Buchla modular system, securing him a well-deserved spot on keys for Trent Reznor’s Nine Inch Nails. This, however, is only the tip of the iceberg.

Last year Cortini dropped the excellent Sonno LP on Dominick Fernow’s Hospital imprint, and the Buchla was nowhere to be seen. Instead of showing his chops on an instrument that most musicians couldn’t dream of using, Cortini instead confined himself to the humble Roland MC-202. The 202 doesn’t have the reputation of some of its starrier Roland family, mainly because it’s notoriously difficult to use, but it’s basically a portable, keyboard-less SH-101 with a sequencer that requires an advanced intellect to take advantage of. The portable nature of the instrument allowed Cortini to pen tunes while on tour with Nine Inch Nails, and his follow-up LP, Risveglio, continues where Sonno left off.

This time around he’s added some other portable Roland instruments – the legendary silver pair, the TR-606 and the TB-303. The message and basic sound, however, remains intact. There’s no squiggly acid here; rather, Cortini finds a way to tailor the familiar instruments to his own very specific sound, and emerges with something haunting and personal.

That’s exactly the kind of thought behind this dense FACT mix – sure there are cuts from Plastikman, Aphex Twin and William Basinski, but these are drowned in abstract electronics and muted noise from Shifted, Powell and Peder Mannerfelt.

Alessandro Cortini’s Risveglio will be released on Hospital Productions on July 27.

Musique Pour La Danse is proud to present Coil's unreleased soundtrack for the VHS only, pre-internet, sexual education documentary entitled "The Gay Man's Guide To Safer Sex" released in 1992. Members for this project are John Balance, Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson and Danny Hyde.

The OST, to quote John Balance's interview for Compulsion Online, "is [a] slightly new agey, progressive house type thing". 

Another way to approach it is as a delightful collection of balearic beats, smoking jazz not far removed from Badalamenti's work with David Lynch, somewhat of an ambient house album for your home listening and early morning sunrise dances, Coil style.

Taken from the original masters provided by Danny Hyde, "The Gay Man's Guide To Safer Sex" features a new sexy edit of the main theme. Bonuses  "Nasa-Arab" and "Omlagus Garfungiloops" are taken from the 1992 CD only "Stolen And Contaminated Songs", both being original versions of the radically reworked (for the OST) "Nasa-Arab 2" and "Exploding Frogs" in order to balance the whole album and extend the listening pleasure.

I wrote this track as a reminder to myself that everything will work out in the end. Even though things might be getting down it will get better. I wanted to change up my usual production style for this track, and push myself to write outside of my comfort zone. 

It’s an uncertain moment with what’s happening around the world with events being cancelled, jobs being affected and entire countries being quarantined. Wherever you are stay safe and maybe this song can somehow take on extra meaning while with those you care about.

The landmark 100th single on Phantasy arrives courtesy of label founder, DJ and producer, Erol Alkan. Originally recorded less than a year after Phantasy’s inception in 2007, ‘Automatic’ arrives in 2021 to both celebrate and anticipate resurgent dance floor abandon, blending elements of French touch and disco psychedelia with driving, raw percussion, as charismatic and gloriously high-energy as anything from Alkan’s extensive back catalogue of productions and remixes.

‘Automatic’ is available to download and stream digitally, and will initially be available as a limited edition pressing of 100 single-sided vinyl, housed in a screen-printed sleeve with each copy individually hand-numbered by Alkan himself.

Each artist leaves their indelible mark, yet the record’s true power lies in the communal spirit at its core.

“This is a living and breathing collective,” says Avery. “Since the earliest recordings, Tremor felt like a studio in the sky, a space in time through which we could all pass as artists”, he reflects. “It’s the welcoming spirit of acid house with the doors flung open wider still to allow in every influence from my musical journey: the warmth of distortion, the stillness inside intensity, the transcendental beauty of noise... They have always been there in my music but now it feels like those ideas are being transmitted in Technicolor.
