Usually Wednesdays are a cause for consternation here at Data Transmission HQ. It’s the middle of the week and the weekend seems a world away. This Wednesday however we’ve been dancing round the office as if it’s the last hour of work before a bank holiday weekend. The cause for our fantastic mood? The sun is shining, the weather is sweet and life is good. Oh and we have an exclusive stream of Toy Tonic's latest EP from DT favourites and recent Live Transmission alumni Sacha Robotti and ZDS.

Titled the 'Shaky' EP, the release sees Dirtybird artists collide with the Toy Tonics roster for the second time as Robosonic's Sacha Robotti joins forces with ZDS for two slices of quirky bass influenced techno. Whether DJing or producing, ZDS has long been considered an expert in crafting scrupulous tech-house flavours and few can concoct delicious fare quite like the former Panorama Bar resident. Having forged a reputation out of doing exactly that, and as such, having delivered on a slew of the scene's most renowned labels  it's fair to say we were expecting big things out of his collaborative work with Mr. Robotti, who having studied under a certain Karl Bartos of Kraftwerk has quite the musical pedigree himself. Set to hit shelves and playlists May 25th, we're sure you're going to be hearing plenty of both of these tracks during peak times over the coming months with the 'Shaky' EP surpassing our lofty expectations. Go on, put this on and try to tell us you don’t want to dance…

Why do we tell stories? 

We breathe, we eat, we sleep. We seek connection. These are our basic human needs. 

But there is one more need we all share, and it centres on stories. All across the world, stories are being recounted everywhere, in every imaginable way, at any given time. For telling stories is at the very essence of what it is to be human. 

The universe of stories can be broken down into seven basic plots which underlie all stories ever told. Recognising these patterns is the gateway to unravelling the universal symbolic language from which all storytelling is spun.

With Rags To Riches, Chapter 24 returns with seven stories in sound collected from artists across the world to bring these themes to life.

The compilation begins with Oliver Schories, a titan of the scene who regularly bestrides labels such as Suara, Stil vor Talent and his own SOSO. ‘Eno’ is an arp-led driving track overlaid with a hooky cut up vocal that perfectly sets us on our way.

Darin Epsilon (Renaissance, Sudbeat, Hope) brandishes his own thunderbolts with ‘Jenova’, an effortless and deep cut of musical techno that sparkles with hints of summer.

JOBE (Connaisseur, Selador) is up next with ‘Aurora’, exemplifying his both timeless and forward-thinking approach to production. A killer sub line takes hold over cosmic atmospheres.

The cornucopia of treats continues with the addition of newcomer Roundhead, a highly talented 22 year old Italian producer who delivers the massive ‘Durante il Viaggio’. Analogue synths are coupled with outstanding organic elements.

Einmusika and Chapter 24 artist Christopher Ivor’s dreamy and emotional ‘Back Home’ retains the organic and instrumental features, coupling them with his signature grooves - before label regular KatrinKa adds her own wistful, evocative contribution with ‘Fragments’.

Finally, Danny Oliveira makes his return to Chapter 24 in combination with his partner George Gomes with his new act, Shades of Light. ‘Sierra’ is a widescreen and ambitious piece: deep, dirty and beautiful music to rule the cosmos.

They say that there are only seven basic plots but a thousand different stories.

And so, as the storyteller utters that age old, magical phrase "Once upon a time...", let yourself be carried away…

Who are Non-Operational People? We're just getting to grips with it. But this (at least to us) anonymous collective are here releasing a stonker of a three-tracker on Berlin label, @Vakant. 

We could have chosen any of that trio, but our favourite of the bunch happens to be "Octogonal Library," providing otherwordly tribal beats and spacey synths. Bongo beats with a twinge of acid aren't elements you'd first connect with techno, but it certainly works in N-O's favour. Just the right amount of psychedelic flavour from the label otherwise known for its minimal sensibilities.

"Octogonal Library" will be released as part of Organic Transmission, on vinyl on 17th October and digitally on 31st October. You can preorder the album via the Buy link.
