Commissioned and Premiered by the ACJC Alumni Choir, Colours (here in)it is a variety of emotions. On the one hand, there is a connection with what I am as a person, where I came from and what are my principles as human being, as for example, a very profound connection with Lisbon, in Portugal. Lisbon was a city where I lived for 7 years, it was this city that thought me how to became a better human being and a better composer. On the other hand, there is a personal relation with, not only to whom the piece is dedicated (José Luís Ferreira, a composer and professor at the Lisbon Music College who died early in 2018), but also to the ACJC Alumni choir who became a friend.
The piece, has three texts, one by an anonymous poet, Álvaro de Campos - Portuguese poet and E.E. Cummings. With them, and its poems, I tried to do a journey between my emotions and connections, using E.E. Cummings’s poem to confess to the choir, to Lisbon, to my origins and to José Luís Ferreira “i carry you heart with me (i carry it in my heart)”
