This arrangement of John Legend's massive hit tune is an a cappella harmonic adventure, pulling no punches with deep (mostly) six-part reharmonization in an unusual, mostly homophonic choral setting. For advanced groups needing a challenge, this can be a surprising addition to your set list, looking fairly innocuous on your program ("Oh, look, honey, it's that pretty John Legend tune that we heard way too much of a couple years ago...") but packing an ear-punch. There's heart in this arrangement, to be sure, and Julia Dollison is a master of bringing that out on the demo, but this is written inspired by the twisted arranging chops of Jacob Collier and Dirty Loops, and borrows also from the approach of songs like "Hide and Seek" and "Hymn of Axciom".

A country music hit for Keith Whitley and later a pop-Bluegrass hit for Alison Krauss, now arranged with some pop-vocal jazz sensibilities and approachable for treble vocal jazz ensembles. Some reharmonization and dense harmony is used for this effect, and the piece still retains its sweet, romantic core. Fully notated piano and bass (with chords) and drum set. 

When You Say Nothing At All (SSAA Level 3)

An exciting, complex and driving song by the fresh contemporary vocalist Jo Lawry is faithfully adapted for advanced vocal jazz ensembles who want to feature a special, standout piece in their set. Multi-meter, barline-crossing figures keep your listeners off-balance to great effect, and dense, interesting chords voicings will push your singers' ears to a new level.

Ready Aim Fire - (SSATB Level 5)

Really, what can one say?  Dirty Loops craziness once again making Justin Bieber as hip as imaginable, turned into a super-aggressive vocal jazz chart for advanced groups. Of course it's got crazy rhythms and harmony, and the Part Tracks will help your singers with those elements. The bass line from the original transcribed, so your bass player can grab as much of it as they'd like to shed, and they'll have chord changes as well, to play their own figures when they like. Drum part has a lot of hits, keyboard part is detailed, as well, with a few moments of chords and slashes, but also a transcription of DL's keyboard solo. You know you want this one...

Roller Coaster - Dirty Loops Adaptation (SSATB Level 5)

Julia Dollison's 1996 samba arrangement of the Kern/Hammerstein standard is given a serious re-working here, and emerges fresh and exciting, with a taste of contemporary reharmonization added, soli section reinvented, solo backgrounds added and a male/female duet is added for texture contrast and the rhythm section parts have been fully written out. The samba groove feels greats on this chart, and the lyric is carefully set to make it accessible and highly effective for solid school groups. 

The Song Is You (2016 Revision, arr. Julia Dollison/Kerry Marsh) (SSATB Level 3.5)

This arrangement of the Natasha Bedingfield hit from 2004 retains the general feel of the original recording while incorporating jazz harmonies and some subtle reharmonization. The chart is not entirely in four parts, but spends a good amount of time in two and three parts.  Your treble jazz choir will have a great time learning and performing this empowering piece!
