[NEGATIVE SPACE]
Negative space is the empty space between elements within an image, painting or design. It's generally a positive, sought-after quality which provides breathing room for an audience to focus and process the scene or message. 

And similarly with music, this "blank" space traces and outlines the silence; an invisible soundstage which defines the acoustic properties of a performance or recording — depth, detail and dynamics. 

Yet at the same time, negative space also describes an unpleasant human condition — whether a location, memory or emotion — where darkness overshadows the light.

But what about in-between, neutral spaces we regularly inhabit? These countless routines — and even rote travels — provide us with an infinite library of experiences to draw from or reflect on.

Yes, those grayscale, almost liminal spots, are also elements of this negative space.
