I'll Follow You - Daniel Johnston and Daniel Jay Micheal

Fourth track on a loose concept album I did for the RPM challenge 11 years ago. Walking Song sees our protagonist wandering the wastelands in search of music and hope. 

We have destroyed society though some horrific mechanism, perhaps nuclear war, and our protagonist travels the wasteland with his guitar looking for other musicians, hope and a chance for some of us to start anew. I used a pretty convoluted recording process, but I like the songs, I hope you do too.

Johnny was looking for another girl. 
To make everything seem alright.
But, he's not getting any younger and the nights are lasting longer, and he's losing his will for the fight.
His size 30 jeans are getting tight at the seams, he looks like Del Boy when he's stood at the bar.
With his trilby hat, his stomach formerly flat, you can see that he won't get very far.

All the guys from his school who used to think he was cool they now avoid him on the Saturday nights.
Because what works when you're young doesn't last very long, even if you think you're doing alright.
Oh, the years have a way of blowing up in your face, you gotta move if you wanna stay the same. 
Stuck in the same place, need to develop some taste, Because drinking is a younger man's game.

Now Johhny can't see, things as clearly as he, should be able to because he's not bright.
But the years on the gin, and giving into the sin, have not  progressed him very close to the light.
You see he thought he had made it when he had a new baby in the summer of two thousand and three.
But the bitch up and left him when he didn't stop betting and spent all the electric money.
