On Friday 20th of November a Pi x Phormix night took place at Six D.O.G.S. This time our special guest was one of our favourite DJs and producers, Silent Servant (Juan Mendez),  widely-known for his contribution in Sandwell District and his latest imprint, Jealous God. The night was really intense, with Juan performing both a stunning live and delivering a great DJ set. For the sake of your soul we decided to give you the whole recording from his DJ set. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we did!

Phormix Podcast #31 Document •7• Silent Servant

In anticipation of Atom™ and Tobias' tour of the US over the next two weekends (July 29 - Stereo Montreal, July 30 - The Bunker New York,  August 5 - Surface Tension SF, and August 6 - Lunar Lodge Colorado), we dug up this set, recorded at The Bunker New York showcase at Anthology at The Works in Detroit on May 25, 2015.  This three hour live and improvised set of hypnotizing mind control music closed out Movement weekend in epic fashion.  The room was still packed when they finished at 6am.

Born in Zagreb in the early ‘70s, his career in dance music stretches back the best part of 20 years, but it’s only in the new millennium that he’s been using his own name for his productions. Over the years he’s graced many of the world’s most prestigious and best-loved techno institutions – including mega-festivals I Love Techno, EXIT, Awakenings and Wire, and cutting-edge clubs like Berghain, Matter (RIP), Womb, Air, Fuse and Space. He counts a longstanding relationship with Belgium’s legendary Music Man label amongst his achievements, an imprint that has also played host to releases by everyone from Jeff Mills (for whose label Tomorrow he created the Sculptures mini-LP) to Green Velvet to Robert Hood, and after completing his acclaimed debut album Escapements in 2008, he’s got the follow-up in the works (for completion by the end 2010).

Petar Dundov makes intelligent electronic music that breaks boundaries, moves feet and twists minds. He is without a doubt one of the most inspiring, original and daring producers in electronica, and with the likes of Sven Väth, Francois K, Laurent Garnier, Adam Beyer, Josh Wink, Guy J, Glimpse, Hernan Cattaneo, Brendan Moeller, and Danny Tenaglia amongst his fans, it would be hard to disagree.

And that's what Leipzig/Germany based Marcel Sterling alias Marc DePulse wants to tell us with his releases and podcasts: there is no box into which you must fit in because you are free in your mind to do whatever you love. Being real, being authentic, being a full time music lover. That means: go to bed and wake up with only music in your head.

Whoever shed some tears while listening to emotional music can relate to what Marc is trying to achieve. It has to be “music to remember” and make a big impact. And that could be a melody, a baseline, steady percussion or strong vocals. Marc has already connected a lot of that love with his music. In more than a decade represented by the strongest labels (150+ releases) and performing on the biggest international stages, Marc has established as a unique producer and DJ.

After releases and remixes on Noir Music, Traum Schallplatten, Definition:Music, Katermukke, Selador – just to name a few – Marc is currently working on his second artist album which will be released in 2017 on his homebase label Einmusika Recordings.

According to his own productions, Marc is running the rising label JEAHMON! Records and opened another platform for the artists origins. “How I Met The Bass” is a storyteller podcast project which became a big brand yet.

GLENVIEW RECORDS follows up their ONUR ENGIN album with this full length LP of edits from Spanish edit sensation RAYKO. This album takes us straight to the madness filled summer dance floors. At the same time it is also true album, it is not just a collection of tracks, it has its own flow and rhythm as it moves us from song to song from the beginning to the end. Rayko sets us on the journey with Sumy’s Funkin in Your Mind, real sleaze funk workout, driving beat and loopable groove is polished but, psycho nevertheless. Womack & Womack Conscious of My Conscience is very sexy track, Rayko maintains natural feel and emotion of the original yet giving it much stronger dance floor appeal with driving rhythm and dreamy vocal rearrangement. Flip over to the B-side and get ready for a very surprising choice - 1983 Italo Disco number by K.I.D. Come and Get It. It totally works, much more serious transformation was needed here and Rayko delivers perfectly. Rayko stays fairly close to the original with his rework of Joe Coleman’s Get it off the Ground; it is a bit slowed down, 80s with big synths, a hypnotic groove & new killer bassline. Rayko continues with second Womack & Womack song Love Wars, this songs is completely rearranged, it is actually more of a remix than an edit. It comes with new layers, new pulsating stomping bassline, vocals are darker and way edgier. It is a gem. D Train Keep Giving Me Love is a disco house excursion; Rayko extends, blends, cuts & chops the EQ to produce essential rework of this 1983 classic for the modern dancefloor. As we get closer to the end of the album Rayko again surprises us with Bill House’s You are no Better Than a Common Thief, the original is quite bluesy and touching, Rayko preserves all of the important elements of the song - sensational vocals, original guitar and rhythm section, very pretty and subtle re-edit. The album closes with 1979 Final Edition’s I Can Do it (Anyway You Want), it is true indeed Rayko can serve it anyway you want, with this album Rayko clearly establishes himself as super disco producer of our time. 

On CD you will find an extra bonus track, Jah Wobble’s Hold on to Your Dreams, Rayko extends the original track by almost 7 min, making perfect for those late summer nights, the mood is right and there is simply no end in sight.

Piccadilly Records Review: 

Rayko delivers a 14 minute-long extended edit of the 80s club classic from Public Image bass man Jah Wobble, The Edge from U2, and Can's Jaki Liebezeit (lifted from their 1983 "Snake Charmer" mini album). A beatdown post-punk alt-boogie number, it's soulful, percussive and ultra groovy.
