Hailing from Manchester in the UK, acoustic-electronica trio GoGo Penguin are pianist Chris Illingworth, bassist Nick Blacka and drummer Rob Turner. Drawing on a heady brew of influences from Brian Eno, John Cage, Massive Attack and Aphex Twin to Manchester’s grey rain-streaked urban streets, they create a brave new sound that is wholly their own.

Defined by skittering break-beats, powerful sub-bass, telepathic interplay and a penchant for anthemic melody they create an emotionally rich palate for the listener that has seen them hailed as the most exciting new band to emerge from the UK in years.

I’ve worked in the Club/Music Events industry since 2009 as a promoter/booker/programmer most notably at the CLF Art Cafe/Bussey Building & Corsica Studios in South London, and as a DJ with appearances at festivals including Glastonbury & Love Supreme and guest radio appearances on NTS & Balamii Radio. 

Between 2012-2016 as well as becoming a General Manager, I programmed and held DJ residencies at a number of in-house club nights at the CLF/Bussey Building alongside the owner of the venue, Mickey Jazzheadchronic Smith including Zonk Disco and the legendary South London Soul Train.

Following my time at the CLF I moved to Lisbon, regularly DJing there and then returned to programming events in South London at Buster Mantis, Deptford & The White Hart, New Cross where we installed a vintage audiophile Tannoy soundsystem between 2017-2019.

Since then, as well as performing solo I started a DJ crew called Svelte (@svelteclub) which celebrates a shared love for 80s sounds, synths, Italo, Soul, R&B, Disco, House, Hip-Hop, Boogie, Electro and beyond.

Khruangbin is a band from Texas, started in 2011 by Laura Lee (bass), Mark Speer (guitar), and DJ (drums). We like to make music in a barn.
