PleasureJams is a New York City DJ collective comprised of Stewey Decimal, Allie Bell and Marosy. First meeting in Burlington, Vermont, and then reuniting years later in NYC, the trio share a passion for positivity and spirituality through music and dance. Bodega caught up the collective to talk about the trio’s early years, their individual styles and the digital dance parties that kept everybody moving through the pandemic.

Another instant hit from Australia's fervent scene, Rushing sees Freemantle based MC, Cruz Patterson delivering hallucinatory rhymes over an uptempo bruk leaning beat.

Named after the famous flightless Tasmanian Nativehen, which can run up to 40kmph, TURBO CHOOK exposes a new side of McConnell’s musicianship (following his success as half of the house and soul duo Close Counters, who gained support from tastemakers Indie Shuffle, Clash Mag, XLR8R, NME, Mixmag, Pilerats, EARMILK, Stoney Roads, Gilles Peterson, to name a few). Similarly, Cruz holds a string of successful solo singles in his repertoire, such as the song ‘Venice’, produced by Tame Impala, and other collaborations including ShockOne and SuperEgo. Notably known as the frontman of the acclaimed group Koi Child, Cruz toured Australia prolifically with Tame Impala & Fat Freddy’s Drop,playing at festivals, international tours, and receiving a nomination for an ARIA Award for ‘Best Urban Album’, as well as acclaim from Beats 1, Triple J, BBC Radio 1 & more.

Described by Patterson as “a hip hop track that ever so slightly nudges the boundaries of the genre with its fast paced tempo and out of the ordinary story telling”, ‘Rushing’ recalls the night of the ARIA Music Awards, when Cruz’s drink was spiked. When TURBO CHOOK sent him the instrumentals, he felt they perfectly depicted the feeling of being unknowingly drugged: “I was rushing, kinda trippy, like time was spinning in circles around me”. Despite being characterised by a consistent and pressing groove, the track is painted with liquid tones which depict an enticing identity for the song. With Cruz’s storytelling and TURBO CHOOK’s skillful musical craftsmanship, the audience is encouraged to hear something new and refreshing with every listen.

"Rushing" will see full release on Friday February 18.

The remix represents Philadelphia at its best, King Britt has been an artist that I have had the honor to perform with and learn many things just by watching him.  I am thankful that he has remixed one of my favorite songs from the album originally produced by artist Wizard Apprentice.  Time Float speaks about the environmental warfare that continues to plague historical African American and low income communities.

Moor Mother | Time Floats (King Britt remix)

Back behind the drums and swinging harder than ever, with his new titanium hip crowdfunded by the immense generosity of friends and fans, brazilian drumming legend and one third of Azymuth Ivan ‘Mamão’ Conti releases a brand new solo album next year with Far Out Recordings. It’s his first solo release in over twenty years and the first to come out on vinyl since his 1984 Milestone classic The Human Factor. As people of earth may not quite be ready for the explosive cosmic samba of Mamão’s new album just yet, we’re easing into it with a double header of heavily percussive, future-centric, jazz-minded, yet club-ready remixes. 

Following on from the IG Culture meets 22a remix EP released earlier this year, the second remix 12” ahead of Mamão’’s album release, hosts three producers united not only by a foundational appreciation for the work of Ivan Conti and Azymuth, but also in the belief that there’s much more to dance music than straight four to the floor. These are two of Germany’s most consistently on-fire producers: Money Sex Records buddies Max Graef and Glenn Astro, along with the ascendant Mancunian producer/percussionist Contours. With Mamão’s famously jovial character shining through each remix, the EP spans hip-hop, deep house, jazz-funk and afro-brasilian rhythms, giving the listener a taste of what’s to come from Mamão’s much anticipated new album in 2018.

Ivan Conti - Azul (Max Graef Remix)

In March long time friend of the label, Neue Grafik, stepped forth with his most fully realised offering to date. 'Innervision' had been a long time coming, born out of a encounter in Paris back in 2016. The EP begins with the lysergic ebbs and flows of ‘Innervision’, in which Wayne Snow graces the record with a sublime vocal performance.

The record takes cues from the broken-beat sound of London while paying homage to the Parisian house dance scene. Largely sample based, but also employing much more live instrumentation than ever before, Neue Grafik’s music is informed by movement and in turn offers so much for Dancers to respond to.
