Notes: 

If you are here for the second time a deep thank you.  Someone asked how far I thought I could push this track on the production end.... here is my answer and challenge accepted.  I ended pulling the track to see how close to Stone Temple Pilot's - Sour Girl I could get.  

What a ride it has been as I delved into new things and endless moments of frustration.  If Tainted Icarus were a group of other people and I was doing their mixing,  I would have choked them all at least once.  Organic, dynamic and each of them powering up their performances...but damn does that make for some difficult mixing. 

Sour Girl is a dark, heavily compressed and tricked out track...plus some killer low end

At the end of the day or weeks in this case I pushed, pulled prodded, twisted and worked with no limitations.... yeah... maybe you shouldn't use an EQ like that... but if it seemed to get me closer away I went. 

A lot of dead ends and dark, lifeless tracks as I pushed...

Something important still eludes me and I think it may be something analog.  The slight pitch shifts and elongated/slurring of the drum track and Scott's vocal tonal shift are a clue... tape brake? tape machine? reel size?  I could go on and on.  

A fun and demanding engineering project and forced me into learning more about the tools of the craft.  

Always about moving the ball forward!

With today's final print and bringing the project to a close.  I got close enough to be proud of what I achieved.  Sour Girl is peak STP and peak era of big budget productions.  Difficult to say the least and certainly a bit outgunned... but the challenge is how I learn best and there is always next time.

I hope when you hear Greed you enjoy it, you hear the hours of labor spent at the dead ends... hours spent trying to tweak a second of the track to fall in line with the theme.  It's not perfect.... but nothing I ever work on is going to be.  Its about inviting you into the space where the music was made and to share the moments captured.

Herzlich Willkommen, zu unserem neuen Lied " Innerliche Stärke ".
Durch das Leben  finden Colin und ich immer wieder neue Inspirationen für die Musik , sie gibt uns soviel innerliche Stärke weitere schöne Kompositionen zu produzieren.
Wenn ich an meinem Piano sitze , kommen mir immer Melodien in meinen Kopf und ich nehme sie auf , wie auch dieses mal. Danach spielte ich noch andere Instrumente ein und sendete es zu Colin , er spielte dann auch noch mit anderen Instrumenten seine Ideen hinzu , und so wurden aus vielen Puzzelteilen diese Komposition !
Die Musik gibt Colin und mir immer wieder innerliche Kraft und Motivation , auch mit vielen Situationen im unserem Leben zu verarbeiten ,dass sich sehr Positiv im Leben auswirkt . 
Fast jeder von uns hat ein Hobby , dass wir zum Ausgleich von unserem Alltag brauchen und bei uns ist es die Musik .
Colin und ich hoffen , dass wir auch Ihnen mit unserem neuen Lied Freude , Dankbarkeit und Liebe schenken können .

Colin´s worte : 
I love the way that when I first hear a track from Oliver that I can almost instantly hear a melody that I can add and this track was no exception.

Oliver provided wonderful piano, strings, various flutes and a horn and viola melody to which I added my guitars and bass guitar as usual but also layered the big drum sounds and added rolls and cymbal crashes to provide maximum impact. I also added the cello melodies and, at Oliver's request, the sound of the wind at the start of the track.

This was a larger than usual project for me to mix (25 tracks) which provided a challenge (especially as I do all my recording and mixing on my iPad) but I am really happy with the end result. Thank you, Oliver, for this wonderful learning opportunity!

I think this is our best track to date and, to me, it really portrays the Inner Strength, the strength that can come from within in times of stress or adversity to help us find or fight our way through back to happiness. We just have to look inside to find that strength, we all have it, we just have to go within.

R.I.P. Pace.  My best friend and mentor. Changed my life forever and will be missed forever.

I was born in Huntsville. I use to dig in my father's drawers looking for music and would pop in whatever I could find. I ended up listening to Bruce Springsteen, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Led Zeppelin, Prince. Just whatever I could find in his collection. So, my interest in music began at a young age compared to most. I would literally go to bed listening to music with headphones on when I was that age. Music was in my veins and has been ever since. As I got older, around the age of 11 bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Tool, Rage Against the Machine, Beck, Radiohead & many others began blossoming. I wasn't a fan of hair metal, so these bands offered something different and it was something I liked. Up till this point I had indulged in Classic Rock. Bands like the Doors, CCR, Beatles, Johnny Cash, and a little bit of punk rock. We had a punk rock scene in D.C. Henry Rollins was from our city and Bad Brains as well. I listened to other punk bands like Dead Kennedy's and GG Allin. Around 14 years old I got my first guitar. It was a acoustic guitar my father got me for either my birthday or Christmas. I think it was my birthday though. I never took lessons, I just bought a big poster with guitar chords and would sit there everyday learning them. I use to have to walk everywhere and remember coming up with songs in my head, but never had the means to record them and they would just fade away within a day. By the time I was 18 yrs old I landed myself in jail for the first of many times to come. Playing guitar had long been something I was doing, but drinking and partying was my new favorite thing. I never really got into any big trouble, but I've had my fair share of time in the jails. About 5 years ago I decided to clean up my act and start writing music. I bought some software, new equipment and began recording. I never thought it would get me anywhere, I was just doing it for fun really. Then people began to respond to what I would write. People really liked my music and it inspired me to continue and to be better. So, I'm still on that road.
