This song, originally written for my 2nd daughter Joanna, was one of my first ventures into Latin Jazz.  Exceptionally talented pianist Debra Buesking heard it and wanted to add her Latin seasoning to it, and did she ever.  I love the spice she gave it; part Bossa, part Tango, all Debra.

CHAPTER 2 - AUTUMN
“Lina’s Apples” is a deeply elegiac song about memory, loss, and the collapse of natural cycles. The orchard becomes a symbol of both personal grief and environmental decline: once vibrant with blossoms, bees, and family traditions, it now yields only a handful of decaying apples, echoes of what has been lost. The lyrics weave together the intimate — a mother’s baking, whispered farewells — with the universal, as dying trees and failed harvests mirror a world slipping out of rhythm. The refrain of “no season comes here anymore” underscores the permanence of absence, transforming a simple image of apples into a haunting metaphor for the end of continuity, tradition, and the fragile bond between humans and the earth.

It's Stones Covers Tuesday! When we were 20, my friend Micha and I had been spending dozens of hours in his small red car driving from gig to gig. The car had a tape deck, and the only tape we had was some Rolling Stones concert bootleg. Since then, this song has always been one of my favorites, and my take on it is to have added a bit more junkie feel.
