with plans he had made, he would play the part, sing the songs, that everyone knew
well, he played anywhere, he could, and some would say, hey, you're pretty good, I wish I could, play it like you
what they didn't know was that he just did it too get away from all the confusion

there was something in the way, he took us all away
there was something in the mood, that got a hold of you
when he swore he had no gun, well, that part it wasn't true
but when he began to play, we all began to move

thought we knew you

well, as fate would have it, he wrote some hits, made it big and suddenly, we knew him by name
all of the scars that ran so deep didn't go away, you could say, they took him away

when he had it all, he just wanted it to be the same as it used to be, when he was a kid
...but it was too late
